The positives are Cueto continuing to be healthy and pitching like his usual self. Phillips healthy and hitting. Cingrani and Price hugging each other in the dugout and saying sorry, I was in the wrong.

At this point I would rather see Reds pitchers toss the ball underhanded over the heart of the plate. The walks are getting old.

I hate to agree with Thom on just about anything, but I'm also puzzled by why there would be a rule that forced a "switch-pitcher" to throw from one side to a batter the entire AB. If he's got the glove and not delaying the game, what difference does it make how he throws the ball to the plate? That would be like telling Bronson Aroyo he couldn't "drop down" and do all the crazy stuff he used to do.

Why would a pitcher want to switch in the middle of an at-bat? He will choose at the beginning of the AB whichever side that gives him the advantage vs. the batter.

This year, not sure it matters.

Longer term the Reds have a lot of work to do on the pen. They may want to revisit Iglesias as a reliever. They may want to devote a couple of high level prospects to the pen. And if Chapman is traded the project is even more challenging.

Kc61

As I posted elsewhere, I wonder if Cingrani has bought into the pen. He obviously wanted to remain a starter.

He has to buy into it, if he's going to succeed.

If he does, then he may improve, it's a recent conversion. I still think he can be effective, either as a starter or reliever, and he has some excellent outings.

But his walk rate is ridiculously high and the guy certainly has been inconsistent in the pen.

A theory that probably has nothing to do with the reason. Switch Pitcher pitches to Switch Hitter. Switch pitcher choose right hand, switch hitter bats lefty. Pitcher changes hand. Switch hitter calls time and switches to righty. Switch pitcher changes hand again. Switch hitter calls time and switches again ....

Just arrived back home after a trip to the ballpark. I guess it is poetic justice since I've been dogging Bruce this year that he nearly hits one out of the park and doubles up to drive in all the runs. Cueto, you could just see him become unhittable after inning 2. He found his command, hit the corners, kept the ball down. The Padres, after two days of raking, barely hit a ball hard all day. My boys were a little bummed at no Batting Practice, they usually snag a few balls either from players or home runs. Not sure why no BP today.

Oh, and the game was over in under 2:30 hours. Easy win, a rare one this year.
