As a poster alluded to in another thread and our boy Thommy also made mention of during last night's telecast. Where would these Reds be if they hadnt of blown 3 games last week? I didnt think about it much while we were "imploding" to look at the schedule. Geez, give us those 3 games and we are in the thick of it heading into Wrigley.

It's a long season, as they say.

Many examples of teams meandering near the basement for the first half of the season, then turning it on in the second half, cruising right into the playoffs.

Not saying that is this ball club, but that's why they play the games.

And those are two cliches right there.

As fun as last night's game was, and I loved watching it, this is not really a playoff team. They blew those three games this past week for a reason. There are way too many problems in the bullpen, most of the offense, especially the outfield and off the bench (never mind the lack of bats in the high minors), and question marks about some of its rotation starters to be a playoff team at this point. If this was the AL East, I might have a different attitude, but the NL Central is just too strong of a division to be a .500 (or sub-.500 team) and be a playoff-contending club.

I agree. I want to thank God for putting us in this spot, and the team for believing in themselves. As a fan I'm just happy to be here. Hope I can help the ball club. Now they just need to take it one game at a time.

As was stated in another post, there were reasons why the team blew those leads, though. It wasn't just bad luck. And until those reasons are fixed, even if the Reds were currently at .500, they wouldn't be for long.

They need a better bullpen, and someone who knows how to manage a bullpen.

Diaz blew the game at home against STL and in Chicago. Add the 2 in Philly that were blown and that 1 in SD....all games that an OK bullpen holds and yes they are closer to the WC.

Trouble is injuries will not stop. Now Phillips is hurt and who knows for how long and they continue to operate one man short on the bench while having to start Negron more. He is like the Gregg of the bench while Boesch is the Diaz. I guess they are waiting for Devin and Jason B to finish their rehab. Either way....weird things like this are always going to leave them shorthanded one way or another. Always killing any momentum this team ever gets on.

I completely agree.....but winning does exude confidence. Hopefully something magical is gonna take place.

4.5 games with 104 to go is nothing. Doesn't matter how many teams they have to jump. Can you see any of those teams ripping off a streak long enough to run away? I don't. Even the Giants, current holders of the top WC spot, have shown they are prone to long losing streaks.

Keep the faith. Lots of time left.

With this bullpen, I can't see the Reds team ripping off a long winning streak. I can see them rip off another long losing streak. And remember, I'm one of the biggest homers on this board.

Yep. That's the monkey in the wrench. However...

Maybe the Hoov keeps on keeping on.

Maybe Parra keeps up his stellar work.

Maybe Cingrani turns it around, and Chapman finds his April form again.

Maybe Iglesias or some other youngin makes a mark down there.

They gotta keep hitting too of course. We have about 3-4 weeks before we know for sure whether or not to cut bait on this season and on the team's pending FA pitchers.

Gotta love your unbridled optimism. I can't argue against such determined hope :)

I have my serious doubts about this team...but you're absolutely correct. I've seen stranger things happen in baseball.

It's easy to be a pessimist. Optimism takes work. But it's also realistic, as well as unlikely.

Lots of games left. Like I said, let's see where they are in 3-4 weeks. Big series this weekend. Gotta get 3 of 4, then at least a split with the 6 vs Detroit.

You gotta have doubt, but being down all the time sucks the joy out of not just baseball, but everything in life. I'd rather enjoy this team. It has a lot of good players and a lot of good people. Let's play half the season at least and then see where they stand.

I secretly have removed my desire to see this group of Reds win any games, and replaced it with Taster's Choice instant loss. Let's see what happens....

Perhaps we should be excited that they haven't had any comeback victories....and have blown lead after lead late in games. Surely that will turnaround and they will be right back in it?
