Chris Heisey .643 ops 2014

Kris Negron .408 ops 2015

Yes. And Marlon Byrd's numbers fit in there nicely. And as a bonus...he's 37.

Yes. And Marlon Byrd's numbers fit in there nicely. And as a bonus...he's 37.

They do?

He's been MUCH better than all of those names listed, sans DeJesus, who's had what? 40 AB's?

He's played surprisingly solid defense. And yes, thanks to the late burst of power his production is better than the guys listed. But MY point is that he's STILL a sub-par player for LF. Saying that you're better than Brennan Boesch and Kris Negron is not glowing praise.

Of eligible LF'ers in the majors, only Cuddyer, Inciarte, Revere and Melky have worse numbers. Personally, I wanted a REAL upgrade in LF this offseason. Instead we got Byrd and his soon to be filed membership in AARP.

lol can't argue that. I'll take what I can get though. Improvement is improvement baby!

I just think a guy coming off a broken wrist will likely struggle for a while.

Plus you consider the fact that Marlon Byrd would likely struggle even if healthy, and I can't say I'm all that excited about him coming off the DL. Byrd is better than Negron, Schumaker and Dominguez though, so there is that. Lesser of the evils by far. (And a really low bar.)

May 1st thru June 2nd was rocking a .953 OPS.

I wonder how much the injury will affect his swing.

Yes as Chuckie also mentioned, that's definitely a concern.

Wrist injuries often take a lot of time for the player to get back to normal. See Texiera.

I'll take my chances with Byrd though over the other available options.

I know the Reds need to at least do a mini rebuild and staying in contention is probably fools gold concerning Cueto and Leake....but I just can't root for them to lose.

It's not like the NFL or NBA where tanking can have serious benefits come draft time.

Instead we got Byrd and his soon to be filed membership in AARP.I'm late to the party (big festival going on in town), but I cannot let this go. He had a slow start, but May and June have been good, so much so that he is on track to hit 25-30 homers and have 75-80 RBI. There is not a name on the list that is capable of doing that. Yes, he's 37, but he is an amazing specimen for 37. You can't join AARP until 50, so he has a long way to go. I'll take production (11 HR and 26 RBI's) over the constant pop up and weak hitting by most others. Says a lot for his condition that he returned quickly,
