Not a bad lineup, but Phillips needs to start hitting again. Hope he isn't playing hurt.

How good would that lineup look right now with a healthy Mesoraco in the middle of it?

Koehler has been scratched with back pain. Nicolino will replace him and be making his first major league start.

Stanton will hit a colossal HR tonight. 3rd pitch of his at bat in the 6th inning with a runner on first. 91 mph fastball into row M of section 404

I hate vague predictions. Can you get a bit more specific?

Which Stanton are you even talking about? Mike?

He's definitely playing hurt ... and probably doesn't get enough credit for that from Reds' fans IMO. He's always been a guy who is more than willing to play through injuries.

Also: I'll take BP at 75 percent over Schumaker or Negron at full strength.

I like his passion and that he is willing to fight through injury. I agree, a 75% phillips is still better than Negron and Skip but Iīd rather have Skip for some games and a healthy phillips afterwards though...

the problem with phillips is simple. he has no power, isnīt walking and his 700+ OPS came from his high avg. He was riding a 330 BABIP... that is not sustainable

Chuckie
06-20-2015, 07:37 PM
You know it's bad when Welsh is bashing the team. But he's right. The Reds lack hitters that work the count. We have a bunch of low OBP guys who go up there hacking at the first pitch.

Chuckie

De Jesus. If not him, Schumaker.

I get playing injured if it's the playoffs or the World Series, or maybe even in the midst of a pennant race. But what has playing injured the last two years and giving the Reds a .680 OPS accomplished?

tomnuetten

So, which of your favorite players would you prefer play 2B tonight: Negron or Schumaker?

I donīt like neither... but having a 75% phillips for the rest of the season is worth than sitting him some day and get him (closer) to 100%

Chuckie

BP effed up that whole inning in the 3rd with his failed bunt attempts and then double play. Game-changer.

Chuckie
06-20-2015, 08:09 PM
This is actually a good thing. If RedsZone posters were fooled into thinking this team was "still in the race" after a modest 3-game winning streak, you know Castellini was fooled too. Last thing we need is him telling his underlings to hold on to Cueto and Chapman because he thinks this might be a playoff team.

A playoff team this is not.

So, I just checked in and I'm seeing Chuckie's posts about how badly DeSclafani is pitching. And then I look at the box score. 4 hits. 3 runs. 3 bb's. 51 strikes, 35 balls. I don't see "sucky" when I look at that. I see a pretty average rookie start. I'm fine with it. He's kept us in the game. Now lets start swinging the bats please.

Outside of about 3 or 4 games in the first month...he's been pretty good IMO. He's still not a groundball pitcher like he was advertised to be, but he's been effective the last couple months.

I didn't see it. So I can't "admit" anything. But looking at the results in the box score...I'm fine with it. I'm not happy with the 3 walks, but I like his strike/ball ratio and he limited the damage it seems. I'm not sure what you're expecting from a rookie pitcher. They'll have the occasional horrific starts, the occasional gem...but mostly we'll get what we got tonight.

Chuckie
06-20-2015, 08:40 PM

Parra warming

IMO, if you want to complain about anything tonight it should be the bats. Rookie pitcher in his first start...at 62 pitches with 2 outs in the 6th. That's just making it WAAAAAY too easy for the kid.

Chuckie
06-20-2015, 08:44 PM
This is so typical Reds. Losing to a bad rookie pitcher, hitting poorly with runners in scoring position, hacking at first pitches, bad pitching by the Reds ... has all the ingredients.

Just an observation...it's tough to tell Red fan from contrarian in tonight's game thread. Once in awhile or maybe more than that, a pitcher will bamboozle the Reds. Once in awhile, rookie pitchers will make mistakes. For those who want to have a fire sale, get used to it. It will be a period of more misery than we're seeing now.

True. But some credit should be given to Nicolini who pitched a heck of a game. Sure, we helped him out a bunch...but he induced groundball dp's when he needed them and he pounded the strikezone. It wasn't ALL ineptitude by Reds hitters.
