What are the Marlins doing batting the pitcher 9th? Don't they realize they have to bat him 8th because ... well ... that's what everyone else is doing?

Michael Lorenzen has the velocity, movement, and secondary offerings to be a great SP. Only thing holding him back is fastball command.

Dat Dude DP. Swung and missed and then fouled off a pair of fastballs right down the middle. Then the GIDP. He hit the ball hard, but right at the SS. Easy play.

Dusty sure couldn't and Price now can't either.

Give some extra credit to Billy for getting close enough to keep Dee from flying from nearly the get go. Dee did a poor job of being far enough off the base....he could've been on 2nd when ball hit was and easily gotten back had Hamilton caught it.....and also would've scored with ease.

If you aren't tagging (and he wasn't)....gotta be as far off as possible so you can still get back safely if caught.

Chuckie

Agreed. That was poor baserunning from Gordon. He didn't get a good read on the ball. He should have scored with ease like you said. Still a great defensive play by the Reds though.

One of those weird things about baseball. How can you strike out the side when half the side didn't strike out?

I know, I'm not a big fan of that terminology either. I think to "strike out the side" it should be three up, three down all due to Ks. I mean, technically, you could give up 10 ERs in an inning and still "strike out the side."

Chuckie
06-21-2015, 02:42 PM
BP is such an easy out right now. He's clearly playing hurt.

Still rather have him out there than Skippy or Negron, but perhaps DeJesus should be the 2B until BP gets himself right.

Geno with a 2-hit day.

I just don't get letting Lorenzen to hit here if he's being taken out. I know he's a good hitter for a pitcher, but he's not a better hitter than Schumaker or DeJesus.

Dumb move by Price. I'm used to that though.

Looks like things might be falling into place due to Bruce's rebound and Byrd's return from injury. Unless you are blown away by an offer, there's no reason to trade Bruce and blow a hole in your outfield, while Byrd is expandable and could bring back a solid chip just like we gave up in the form of Ben Lively.

Glad I wasn't the only one. LOL. But even though it worked, I don't think it was a wise move. Would be different if Price was leaving Lorenzen in to pitch in the 7th, but he's not (according to Thom). Use DeJesus or Schumaker in that situation.

Oh well, it worked. We're almost good again. ;)

Not sure we're gonna see another horrific down cycle this time. The last month+ even when he wasn't getting hits, his pitch selection has been much better. I don't remember an AB where he looked completely lost and/or over matched in quite awhile now. I think he might have figured something out, plus regained some confidence.

Missed the game thread. Father's Day and my son in for a day of activities. DVR'd the game and just watched it. Great game by Lorenzen after a shaky start. Big HR's by Frazier and Bruce and a shaky outing by Chapman, but all's well that ends well. Shoutout to the much maligned Marlon Byrd, who had done nothing but rake since his return. Yes, he's 37, and yes, he's not a big average guy, but he supplies offense. My frustration comes from those who continue to say that Heisey is a better option in left. That drives me nuts. On a team where seemingly no one gets hits in a consistent manner, this guy provides offense. Trade him for chips? Sure. Go ahead, and when we go back to 2-1 losses every other game, and wonder where the offense is while we put kids out there who are hitting .180, talk to me.

Chapman just wanted to add some drama to show off.

I've read that Satchell Paige would load the bases on purpose then strike out the side on 9 pitches. I think you are right. Chapman was bored and decided he need some excitement.
Lorenzen keeps looking good. He looks like a keeper for the future. Also Bruce just keeps getting those "lucky" hits and Frziers just keeps on hitting. Things have looked better here lately overall. It makes it a little more worthwhile to keep watching.
