It is that time again, and I have to say this is my favorite tennis tournament. It should be my least favorite of the four majors, since I am really not a fan of serve and volley tennis. I like the longer rallies. But I never really followed tennis at all until catching Bjorn Borg's act on Center Court. Can you imagine Borg and Djokovic whacking the ball back and forth seemingly forever? Sentimentally, I think it would be nice if Federer or Murray or Nadal won. But I think Djokovic will prevail. What has happened to America's male tennis players? Where is the next Connors or McEnroe or Agassi or Sampras?
On the women's side, Serena looks primed and ready. I would think it is her tournament to lose. If the Canadian Bouchard won, it would not be a disappointment to me.

I'm rooting for Pat Cash.
They do have a seniors division, don't they?

If I had one day to live and was told I could pick anywhere on earth to spend that last day, I'm pretty sure I'd pick Centre Court during the Fortnight.

This Dustin Brown guy who took out Nadal has some serious hair. Hope he sticks around a few more days.

The Serena/Watson match has been fantastic. The Brits are pretty fired up at the chance for one of their own to take down Serena.
Choke city by Watson vs Serena. That was bad.

Being up two breaks against Serena Williams isn't as strong a position as it is against anyone else. Serena played well. The game at 3-0 was everything, Watson had to win that. What did it end up being, 19 points?
I expect Venus to beat Serena if she plays even half that poorly.

Mario Cilic and John Isner had their match suspended at 10-all in the fifth set. Cilic has no idea what he has gotten himself into.
Isner 70 Mahut 68 in set five at Wimbledon. http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/tennis/wimbledon10/news/story?id=5322284
Man, Isner's ground game is awful.....perhaps the worst on tour.

I was talking more about when she was serving for the match. She pretty much crapped on herself that game.

I think I said in the tennis thread at one point that Isner has the best serve in the world and his groundstrokes are like 4.5 level. Exaggerating but he's bad, I can't stand watching him. My least favorite kind of tennis.

If Serena and Keys both lose their QFs (both down a set), this will be about the most ho-hum Wimbledon semifinals field imaginable.

Both took their second sets. Azarenka lacks stamina, so I like Serena's chances. Radwanska is a wily player, which is going to make it tough on Keys. I find Sharapova dull on the court, but Muguruza plays an energetic game.

Well, I would have preferred to see Keys win and Serena lose, but there will still be a reason to tune in Thursday.
The men's QF, on the other hand, are set up to be pretty fantastic.
Gasquet vs. Wawrinka was kind of epic. Both have weapons-grade backhands.
The old Wawrinka showed up yesterday. Looked great at times, but way too many errors and several periods of bad mental lapses. I thought after he picked up the 2nd and 3rd, he'd cruise in the 4th. How he lost that set was ugly, although Gasquet did play a good match. Grass is easily his worst surface and he looks very different on it than either clay or hard court, so I thought he'd have little chance of beating Novak in the semi anyway. But he would have been more competitive than Gasquet. That's going to be a snoozer of a match as I don't see Djokovic even breaking a sweat against him.

Depends on how quickly Gasquet recharges his tanks. I kind of like the Frenchie. He's a 70s throwback player. Djoker can wipe out anyone in any given match, but Gasquet can be a tough opponent. He's kind of like Vitas Gerulaitis in that way.
Serena vs. Muguruza in the women's final. Should be a heavy hitting matchup. Muguruza is one of the few players who can match Serena's firepower.

I suspect tomorrow will be a snoozer with Venus winning easily, but Sunday's men's final should be EPIC.
I really thought Murray would push Federer more than he did. He made a lot more errors than he normally does.
I just don't see Djokovic losing to Federer in this kind of event. He's the worst matchup possible for Fed right now. Federer does not have the baseline arsenal he used to have. His forehand and backhand are still good, but they lack the power they used to and while he still moves well, he doesn't cover like he used to either. Whenever he tries to crank up his ground strokes, he's making a lot of errors.... he's especially hitting the ball into the net more than he used to. He's winning because he's serving better than he ever has and he's been impossible to break. That makes Novak his worst possible matchup given that his greatest strength is his return of serve.
I'm going to say Djokovic in 4.

If Venus wins Wimbledon, you have the scoop of a lifetime.

That second set tiebreaker was absolutely unreal. Best of 3 now.

Roger played well in that first set and then got creamed in the tie breaker. I'd love to see him somehow get this thing to a 5th but it looks very unlikely.

I was surprised to see that Martina Hingis won Wimbledon doubles and mixed doubles titles this year. 18 years ago she won the singles title. And how about Leander Paes winning mixed doubles with Navratilova in 2003 and Hingis in 2015?
