Happens 15% of the time.

Bases loaded, no outs is one of the most tenuous points of a close baseball game. If you are rooting for the team at the plate, you feel confident your team will score here. Anything else, would be a huge disappointment. If you are rooting for the fielding team and your pitcher gets out of the jam, you are elated and praising the pitching staff for being able to handle pressure. Even though bases loaded, no outs (BLNO) seems like a sure thing, there is about a 15% chance the team DOESN’T score at all.

I wasn't 'trying anything', I legitimately didn't understand where your statement was coming from. The trades were mostly praised when they occurred and even some ardent critics are coming around now. We got a rookie pitcher who has barely missed a beat thus far from what one would expect from Simon or Latos, a middle infielder who has shown a lot with the bat in the minors and in his cups of coffee in the bigs, and some scratch off tickets in Jonathon Crawford and Chad Wallach. Suddenly lamenting the loss of Simon and Latos and hand wringing over the return here seemed odd.

Random thought: Would a team like Houston who is interested in Cueto be interested in having Pena come along with Johnny as well? Not that Johnny wouldn't be just as good with another catcher but Pena is also a pending FA and is having a fine year at the plate.

Personally I was in favor of letting Brayan walk at the end of the year because I don't know how you fit at-bats for Mesoraco, Pena, and Barnhart in 2016, but Pena but he's really made it tough.

Nice job Cueto through 8.
111 pitches, I assume Chapman in 9th?

Byrd gone swinging to end the 8th. He'd look good in Minnesota blue, perhaps the old graybeards Walt and Terry Ryan are discussing that right now.

We have a Cuban Missile sighting for the 9th.

Yes, they would. Castro's struggled since his return and their backup Conger is pretty bad. They've pinned their C hopes on Jason Castro and thus far...not good. They've got Max Stassi in AAA but he's struggled too the past couple of seasons.

Slight delay at Chappy is not happy with the conditions on the mound.

For those keeping track at home, like I am, Aroldis is currently sporting a mustache with some stubble on his chin and sideburn area.

Infield popup by Plouffe, one away.

Joe Mauer, sporting a Minnesota lumberjack beard these days, is gone swinging on a 101 mph fastball. 2 down.

They already have one. He's pinch-hitting for the Twins right now. (Torii Hunter)

How is he going to explain it to his son if Chapman slips in his delivery?

WOW! What a snag by Billy! And this one belongs to the Reds!

Tom Servo

Chapman pitches Hunter carefully, and rightfully so as Hunter lines a 3-1 pitch to center heading for the gap...but Billy makes a great diving catch to end the game in style.

We're good again! :beerme:

Today's "Joe Nuxhall Star of the Game" is Johnny Cueto, who pitched 8 innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits with 8 K's and only 1 BB in earning the W.

I am going to miss Johnny when he is traded. The Cardinals fans hated him so that's good enough for me.

My only regret is that he didn't kick more Cardinals in the head.

LaRue had the Crazies that day. A bad bat bit him and he took it to the field. He went off on Jerry Hairston Jr. one time on the bases a few years before that as well. Turned into a total D Bag after he went to that team.

And definitely not Billy who selfishly caught that ball for the final out instead of letting it fall in and allowing Aroldis to strike out another batter giving everyone a free pizza. Just snatched it right out of their mouths, he did.

Nice day game crowd of 26,459!!!!

They got a gem and showed their appreciation with a standing ovation for Cueto (8 innings, 1 run).

REDS take the Twins series and, as expected, continue their good play, having now won 14 of 24.

Nice to see Phillips back in the lineup, and he continued his good play at the plate with a hit and a walk.

I remember that. I think it was Jim Day who interviewed Jerry Jr. after the game and asked him if he and LaRue had had any bad blood or altercations in the past. Hairston replied that he had never even spoken to LaRue before.

Fly out to RF to end the 8th. 2-1 Reds.

I'll have to be going. I'll wave in Tom Servo for the save.

Good job on the save! I was going to lable you a bust if you didn't. :)
