Leake was terrible last time out and the Brewers are wearing out the Reds pitching. Not a great combination....but it's baseball and unpredictable.

One of the biggest games of the season.

Doesn't matter who wins in terms of the playoff races. But Leake needs to refresh his trade value.

His ERA is now a red flag. In his next few starts he needs to show his best stuff for the scouts out there.

I get it, but it's still weird.

Hope everyone had a great 4th.

I was down at Madeira Beach last night with friends. Right before the sunset, a storm had moved in the area. It looked like it was about to get ugly but it never rained, just had distant lightning strikes. So I watched fireworks in the air all down the beach as far as I could see with lightning behind the clouds behind it. It was pretty cool.

How is the Reds attendance doing so good? In 2012-13 we were wondering were the fans were and now that they are into their 2nd year of under .500 ball with hardly much positives to be had anywhere in the organization....Yet they are drawing what looks to be crowds for a contender.

It should be declining this year and watching this team look like they are quitting these last few games. I always used to think declining attendance would make Mike Brown take notice, the only noitce that made him wake up was money. However in football economics you still make money without great attendance. Barely 20,000 crowds would make Bob C take some notice.

Jungmann has a no hitter going into the 5th inning. A no hitter. He hasn't given up a hit, making this a no hitter so far.

If the record of the team made a difference in attendance, the Cubs shouldn't have drawn flies the past few years and the Rays should be right up there among the league leaders. If the Reds start drawing under 20K, Bob can use that as an excuse to not spend. It's somewhat of a Catch 22.

I don't understand using Hamilton as a pinch hitter with one out in the 6th. If he's in the bench, I keep him as pinch runner in a crucial situation late in the game.

There are no crucial situations in this game.

The reason was to try and get the offense started. Manager might not want to wait for this offense until "late in the game."

It seems to make a difference in Cincinnati. Fans don't trust the winning for a few years and then seem slow to realize that they are bad again. Cubs fans are idiots so they should not be included in these type of conversations of what makes sense or not.

If it did they wouldn't have had sellout crowds on Friday and Saturday. Your statement may have been true in the past but the Reds market the team much better now than they did 10 years ago. My girlfriend wouldn't go to a game if she got free tickets but we went Friday mainly because of the fireworks. People buy tickets for the Saturday games because they can get a bobblehead. It doesn't matter if they stay for the game, they bought the tickets.

He is too emotional....he blows out the speakers when Brandon makes a highlight but once he's disgusted by something he lets it roll over to his calling the game. Remember when Frazier (who every single Reds fan loves) hit a walk off grand slam in the 13th.....You could take a nap during his game-winning call.

But is he coachable?

scoring the first run is crucial today

I agree. Hamilton batting with one out has a very low chance of turning into a run. Your using his weakest skill. It worked, kinda, because he walked and stole a base, but I'd rather use a decent hitter as a pinch hitter.

Correct, Reds baseball is an event now, whereas the prior regime thought of it as a game, even if the reds are bad count on eh marketing department to get around that.

The Reds had Schumaker in the on-deck circle. When the first batter was out, they switched to Hamilton. They would rather have a pure pinch hitter, Schumaker, with men on base.

With one out and nobody on, Hamilton has a better chance of making something happen. Like a walk and a stolen base would do.

It made perfect sense. And it worked, except for the failure of other hitters to knock in Billy.

But if you add in his 40 stolen bases, his OPS is over .700, I think.
Not great, but better than what most bench guys would give you.
He has about as good of a chance as just about any to wind up on 2nd or 3rd for the next two guys to drive in.

I had a fifth floor corner dorm room at Ohio University. Two windows, excellent breeze blowing most of the time. Who needs A/C?

(Besides, when it got too hot we would go to the library or computer lab. The mainframe room was kept at a constant 65°.)

Yeah, I agree that is what we will probably see for the rotation in the most immediate sense..... What happens when Lorenzen reaches his innings limit? Will Iglesias do the same given his DL stint? What's going to go on with Cingrani??? Could they (even further) fast track Stephenson? Lot's of questions.....

My daughter's dorm at Marshall was hot as can be for nearly a month last year. For $24,000 I'd think they could swing $100 of electricity to cool it.

Reds and Brewers have the same amount of wins after this weekend. Looks like just a matter time before the Brewers pass them up. Going to be rough week in DC too. You know they will be out to avenge that sweep in Cincy. Reds will get Scherzer Tuesday night. At least Cueto will be going that night and make it a worthwhile game to watch. I won't be able to make any games in DC this year. Games in a work week are tough for me to make.

This season sucks because of the front office mortgaging the future for an exhibition game. Losses aren't that big of a deal when they are expected. Losses when the front office is sitting on their hands is the frustrating part.

This series is probably the low point for me in terms of having any type of hope for the Reds in about 7 years. Even in 2011 and 2014 there was hope that things could be turned around the following year. This team is dangerously close to "the lost decade", and if the next 3 weeks doesn't produce some wise trades it could be a very rough 5 years.
