Here's the lineup: Byrd and Barnhart are back in there. Reds go for the seasons sweep of the Nationals. There are rain showers around the DC area and are expected to be more numerous through the evening. So there could be delays but they should be able to get this one in.

Phillips 4
Votto 3
Frazier 5
Bruce 9
Byrd 7
Suarez 6
Barnhart 2
Lorenzen 1
Hamilton 8

I know many people want to see Rodriguez, but we can't really complain about the regular lineup being out there (sans Peņa).

Drove all the way from Ohio this morning to go to the game (On the way to NC). Looks like it could be a long night. Hope they can get it in.

He gets a lot of hate but I root for Holmberg. Gotta respect a guy who outkicked his coverage so much.

You would hope this would just push Lorenzen back a day and there would be no need to spot start Holmberg, but Price being Price, you just know Holmberg is going to start.

There was scattered rain and thunderstorms around but they could have played this game. There would have been delays but they could have gotten it in. The Nationals have five of their eight regulars out with injury. So I'm sure they took advantage of a few rain showers to get out of playing. They are starting to become a little notorious for this. Its not the first time they have had postponements that could have been played. A few years back I can remember they had an afternoon game scheduled. They weren't going very well at time. It rained part of the morning and they took advantage and postponed. When I got out of work at around three it was sunny and warm. A nice day for game. But its the teams decison at that point and if they are scared to play then so be it. Maybe I will get to go when they swing back through town later in the season.

What cumberland said. The forecast was for rain for the balt and wash metro areas, but up in balt (35 miles north of DC) only sporadic rain around noon and then cleared out. When I saw the cancellation I was stunned - checked radar - and really nothing threatening DC - some showers slid to the south of district.

Nats are absolutely notorious for this.

I compared the two schedules,Nats and Reds. Since playing after the ASG is taboo then the two teams only have two mutual off days the rest of the season to make this game up. August 17th and September 28th. My guess would be August 17th will be the date. That would be the back end of a long west coast trip for the Reds. They should be a lot fun in Washington after a long trip back from LA.

That date would require the Nats to fly to DC between their series in LA and Denver, which seems highly unlikely. I'd guess the 28th of September ...

I hadn't looked at that aspect of it. Also for the Reds an August 17th game would mean nearly a complete month without an off day. I doubt the players union would approve that. Nearly the same for September 28th. Playing that day would make 23 straight days of play. I think there's a distinct possiblity this game won't be made up unless the Nats need it for the playoffs.

I thought the umpires control the decision, at least for awhile?
Shouldn't the league look into this if the Nats are notorious for it?

Umpires don't control it until the game starts or lineups exchanged. If I were the Reds I would file a protest but I sincerely doubt MLB would do anything about it.

I was outside Nats park at game time. The rain had ended and there was blue sky to the north. We left dinner around 9 and there was still no further rain.

It is quite clear the Nats pulled a fast one to get the game called last night.

This game will be made up on September 28th at 3:05 pm. May be a big game for the Nats as they are now locked in death struggle for the NL East with the Mets.
