Fond memories of listening to games on the radio as a kid and hearing "The ole' lefthander" telling the ball what to do. A couple of them you can still hear on youtube are Johnny Bench's homer on Johnny bench night where he said "GET OUTTA HERE BASEBALL" and Pete's 4192 you can hear him yelling behind Marty's play by play (as always) "GET DOWN, GET DOWN....THERE IT IS!".

My brothers and I always got a kick out of his enthusiasm and love of the game. Of course we kept the radio down on school nights and the Reds were on the west coast, but always got busted when the Reds did something exciting because Joe got excited and of course we did too.

"This is the ol' lefthander rounding third and heading for home. Goodnight, everybody."

Also, pretty much anything Vin Scully says...

"Get down! Get down! Get down!" Nuxhall calling Pete's 4192
Really, any home run call when Marty and Joe were in the booth together.

"27 outs in a row and his teammates are mobbing him just to the third base side of the mound . . . "

I love Vin Sculley's voice, but his best call was keeping his mouth shut when Gibson hit that homer. He let the crowd and the picture tell the whole story.

(Oh, and I cannot give too many likes for corkedbat's post above. That game made a lifer out of me.)

Open mic, the sound of the crowd, no commentary occurring at all. Vintage Nuxhall.

"And this one belongs to the Reds." After any Reds win. Marty coined that phrase and made it his own.

Another Harwell one is "He stood there like a house by the side of the road." After a strike out looking.
