Watched a little. Haven't followed the game thread. Sorry if this is repetitive.

This organization rushed Lorenzen, a very good prospect, and now won't sit him down.

I don't want him in the minors. I don't want him in active relief roles. Frankly, I don't want him pitching right now.

Let this kid learn by watching for the rest of this season. Use him once in awhile in a route to give some other guys rest.

I don't care who has to start in his place. Let one of the Kansas City lefties start, I don't care.

Eventually Lorenzen will get hurt from overthrowing. He's not ready to be a successful starter quite yet. He's thrown enough this season. Try him again in spring training. Sit. Him. Down.

Getting belted around the stadium doesn't help him. It's a long season, lot of innings, lot of games. Eventually he's going to get hurt overthrowing. I just don't think he's ready for this.

Work with him on the sidelines. Let him pitch in routes. As the last poster said, let him watch and absorb for awhile. Maybe get him back in there after a long rest, you're right, there's no need for some permanent exile.

I just don't like the trend here. He doesn't seem ready and I don't like watching a young talent be belted around like this.

This happens to most young talents. You don't get better by watching. You get better by working at and honing your particular skills. Just like in any other trade.

Except you can get injured while pitching. You can also lose your mental edge if you are getting blown out of games.

Lorenzen has a long way to go. I wouldn't keep throwing him to the wolves. Take a break, let him work with the pitching coach, throw some long meaningless relief innings. Then come back after a period of weeks.

It's one game. Lorenzen's last 6 starts:

5 IP 4 ER 5K 3BB
6 IP 2 ER 5K 4BB
4 IP 3ER 3K 2BB
5.2 IP 1 ER 4K 4BB
7 IP 2 ER 5K 1BB
6 IP 1 ER 1K 3BB

It's not like he's been getting lit up on the regular (or else I might agree). He's got some things he needs to work on and I'd rather him do it in a season that doesn't matter. Obviously be cognizant of his innings on the season but I see no reason to coddle him at this point.

Nope. No bullpen stints. If they see him as a starter down the road, then only allow him to start games.

What I do agree with is the "break" thing. Maybe with all of these young pitchers on the roster and on the cusp, go to a 6-7 man rotation for the last 2 months after (if) Leake is dealt.

So today's "Joe Nuxhall Star of the Game" is Jay Bruce, who was 3-for-5 with a three-run homer and a run-scoring double, and also moved into a tie with Barry Larkin for ninth place on the Reds all-time home run list with 198.

I think we will continue to have more games like this the rest of the season because our pitching staff is now officially in the FULL ON SUCK category, as we now officially have nobody not named Leake that I think we can count on to pitch past the 5th inning on a regular basis - let alone get a quality start - so our woeful bullpen will be on display more than it already has.
And, that guy named Leake, may be traded by the end of this week as well.

Our offense was always capable of keeping us in the few games where our pitching staff gives up 5 runs or less, but those times will be few and far between from now until the end of the year.
