Wesley "Red" Rush II (July 2, 1927 - January 11, 2009) was an American sportscaster.

A native of Long Beach, California, Rush attended the University of Southern California where he developed his interest in broadcasting. Rush did play-by-play for several Major League Baseball teams, including the Kansas City A's (1965), Chicago White Sox (1967–70), Oakland A's (1971, 1979–80), and St. Louis Cardinals (1984). Through the 1960s Rush was the voice of the Loyola University Ramblers men's college basketball team, and made the famous call of their 1963 NCAA National Championship.

The Ramblers were the 1963 NCAA Tournament Champions, defeating top-ranked and two-time defending champion Cincinnati Bearcats in a 60–58 overtime contest. The team was notable in that it broke the so-called "gentlemen's agreement" amongst coaches in which no more than two black players would be on the floor at one time (and in some road games, black players would have to rotate so that only one of them was playing at any given moment): the Ramblers would regularly have three or four black starters, paving the way for the 1965-66 Texas Western Miners men's basketball team who would finally put the "agreement" to rest and have an all-black starting five.[1]

Leake has been excellent but he is known to give these leads back immediately and he was also on the bases most of the inning and that typically causes him to leave the ball up and we know what happens when he does that. The 1962–63 Loyola Ramblers men's basketball team represented Loyola University Chicago. The head coach was George Ireland.

They didn't give him all that money for two no hitters. They gave him the money because he great in 2012 and 2013 was trending upwards with experience and great stuff like Max Scherzer.

Oh and after a bad April last year he had a 3.17 ERA from May-August 2014, and a 1.62 ERA his last 7 starts. And then he got hurt. It happens. It could happen to Mike Leake next week.

Bronson Arroyo went 8 years without missing a start. And then he had arm pain. And then TJ surgery. But yeah, it could never possibly happen to Mike Leake, and that's clearly why he should have been resigned instead of Bailey.

3.68 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, 112 ERA+ is great?

27th best ERA+ in all of baseball in 2012 (right behind the aforementioned Mr. Scherzer). But fine, he was really good in 2012 and great in 2013. And the Reds gambled that he was going to get even better. And they might have crapped out, it remains to be seen, but I get tired of the constant bashing of players who earn the big money and lionization of those who don't.

Just not getting the great. In 2013 Leake had a lower ERA and higher ERA+

At no point have I ever thought Leake deserved big money. I sit here likely as Leake's biggest fan on this site....but I wouldn't go beyond 4 years $55 million...but at no point did I ever see any reason to give Homer such huge money. Similar stuff to Sherzer yeah....but mound presence, composure and durability has to somehow be factored. A lot of guys with outstanding stuff but everything else he does on the mound just appears (sorry, nothing concrete here and I know that's a no no on here) to be anything beyond average. I did it in the past and don't remember but in that 1 year or maybe both his numbers to Hanigan and then everyone else were drastically, eye-opening different....like Rockies players in Colorado vs on road. .....and then they get rid of Hanigan and sign Homer big. Made no sense and I simply just never have trusted Walt.

I need Homer to be great next year and beyond and if it's debatable then it's not great.

In Homer's defense, from 2012-2014, he had a considerably lower FIP than Leake, even if the ERA+ difference wasn't that huge. I guess we can go back and forth on what pitching metrics to use to effectively evaluate a pitcher's true talent, but the one stat that solely judges a pitcher without factoring in team defense favored Homer. In addition, Homer had shown flashes of complete dominance in individual games that Leake simply had not. The kind of dominance that looks like could lead to ace potential and/or have more value come playoff time, so the Reds chose Homer instead to give the extension to.

As of right now, Bailey's injuries are definitely disconcerting and 2016-17 will be very important for him, I agree. Leake's best asset has been his durability. The question is if the Reds can afford to pay for that.

Good God guys you made it hard on me tonight. Reverse jinxing all night....to a t

I do it every game I watch him pitch live TV....when I'm not doing it on his starts I have the game DVR'd and slowly fast forward through commercials and never quite catch up to the game.

I couldn't acknowledge the reverse as it would negate it...some of you were trying hard! Lol

It took me a couple of posts to realize it. My bad.
