You can tell Hurdle is put out already. One of the Reds will be plunked soon. But Marte was offering at the pitch, and his hands were almost in the upper end of the strike zone.

A little odd on his foot placement, but that ball was definitely thrown into the runner.

His glove is inches past the base...if his foot is on the front and arm extended towards 2nd base direction he gives the pitcher a better target and angle...then as ball is on the way he can reach towards the thrown ball.

Even on the last out of the inning his foot was on the back 1/3 of the base and his stretch foot goes towards 3rd base dugout and receives the ball inches from his chest. He is an elite scooper but he is the worst I have seen on the stretch and on those types of plays.

As I type Alvarez stretches to make the difference between safe and out on Bourgeois. No it's not often these things happen but it's also stuff high school players can easily master.

I disagree. Cervelli is not a good hitter. There were two outs. An IBB to him...yes it MAY force the opposing managers hand and make him burn his pitcher...but it also puts a better hitter at the plate with 2 on. Not to mention you run up the pitch count even further on a kid who struggles to keep his pitch counts under control and who has problems with walks.

I'm not blaming Price for the results of the play. I was blaming him as soon as the play was taking place. Even if Lorenzen had gotten out of it...it was still a poor choice.
