He did a ton of charity work in Portland, especially SE Portland that doesn't get a lot of charity work thrown their way.

Nice tribute to Piper from Richard Deitsch of Sports Illustrated:

This is why I didn't see a thread; I think of wrestling as entertainment. Besides, how can you ignore "They Live"?
Piper was a decade ahead of his time: whip-smart and willing to push the envelope long before the Attitude Era. Never trust a kilted man with a coconut in his hand. His dog collar match against Greg Valentine at Starrcade in 1983 was legendary stuff.
Hulk Hogan always bored me. He was kid stuff. Piper was the guy aching for an R rating. Marked out like crazy for him back in the day. Going to miss that guy. Anyway, quoting the finest compliment ever tossed Piper's way:

I just put on the A's/Indians game and heard wrestling mega-fan Josh Reddick using Piper's theme music as his walk-up music. Love it.

If it hadn't been for Piper, Hogan wouldn't have been as over as he was.

I'd go even further. Without Piper the Rock and Wrestling connection that really elevated WWE into the limelight wouldn't have been near as successful. Its like Hogan and the nWo there was only a very select few who could make Mr T, Cindy Lauper, etc work and at the top of that list was Roddy Piper!
I love Piper's antics now, as a kid I wasn't really old enough to understand the art behind them. Looking back he was one of the all time greats at getting people to hate him.

Just when you think you have all the answers... I change the questions!
He really set the bar high. The closest thing I think left to Piper is maybe Dean Ambrose but he still has to prove a lot to make that more relevant.

Roddy Piper made liking the bad guy cool. He was CM Punk before CM Punk, only better. The swagger, the intensity, the love for the business... not many were better in the ring, and dare I say nobody was better on the mic. A shame he never got to hold the WWE title thanks to Vince putting the strap on Hogan for so many years. Piper was a cool bada$$ in an era of cartoonish characters. He'll be missed.

I am trying to think of the movie I saw him in. It was a sci-fi flick.
RIP you kilt wearing guy.

They Live! is probably the most famous of his movie roles.
