@STATS_MLB: Of #Pirates ace Cole’s 20 outings this year, all have been quality starts except for his 3 games vs. #Reds.

Gerrit Cole just cannot beat the Reds. It's amazing because he is so good.

Man, I just don't see how people can't be excited about Iglesias or dismiss him as "just a reliever". Whatever role he winds up settling into, it seems pretty clear to me he has the ability to be very special at it.

Love the arms the Reds have both developed, signed, and acquired through trade. Growing pains for the next 150 games or so, then look out.

Seriously though....I think the Reds this off season will try to find a suitor for Brandon. I'd put Suarez at 2nd and Cozart at short. If they can't find a taker on Brandon...I bet they do put Suarez on the bench and go with the better middle infield defense for the benefit of the young pitching. One more year of Phillips won't kill us...but I'd certainly give Brandon a bunch of rest to find extra playing time for Suarez.

I'm sure he "could" do it. But I don't think the Reds would do that to him. Someone who's prided himself on his defense for his entire pro career...plunked into the slot where gloves go to die?

My problem with ditching Cozy isn't defense...it's Phillips' contract and the lack of replacements ready in the minors. DeJesus isn't bad, but I think Blandino is still a few years away (and destined for 2b it seems). Phillips WILL deteriorate defensively and offensively moving forward...so I'd much rather move him before Cozart.

You have to be careful unloading BP. The salary relief would be nice, but they have to be confident Cozart won't come back next year and OPS .568 again before they do. Plus Phillips is still elite with the glove.

Grande absolutely said "you can read the body language" after the base hit by Walker in regards to Iglesias being worn down. Brantley agreed, but then justified the decision once it was clear Price wasn't taking him out.

And yes, he was clearly fatigued. He nearly walked Aramis Ramirez and walked Alvarez after only one walk the whole game. Pitchers don't get better after throwing 100 pitches, they get worse.

It's a different animal in the 7th. You've thrown 50-70 more pitches at that point in the game.

Brantley nailed it. You show some confidence in your young pitcher to try and finish the inning so he's not always looking toward the bullpen down the road when he faces these situations in the future. At this point with these starters, it's about much more than just today's game.

"Learning happens on the edge of uncomfortable." -Trent Dilfer

Cheesy quote but I believe in it. Iglesias learns more trying to get thru the 7th than not. He learns he needs to keep the ball down when tired, learns the importance of building strength/stamina, learns what it's like to battle in a tight spot against a playoff team, and learns how he feels doing it so down the road when Skip asks him what he's got left he can give an honest answer.

I'm amazed by the in game reactions to situations like these by people who are elsewhere on the board clamoring for a rebuild. This is what it looks like to push along young pitchers. It's thrilling, maddening, messy, and rewarding--usually within a game or even inning.

You are just complaining just to complain, nothing bad happened.

Price is still a pitching coach in his core, and he did it when our last generation of pitchers were at their limits. It is also important for the coaches to learn how a pitcher deals with a high pitch count. That situation was a win win for everyone. A win for Iglesias, a win for the pitching staff and Coach.

Pirates' pitches hit a lot of batters. I don't think it was intentional, but they hit batters...a lot.

Suarez SF makes it 4-2. How do we play Cozart when we have this kid? Defense, I guess.

Chappy on

I think it'll be how do we play Phillips when we have this kid?

Is it possible Walt solved our left field problem this year?

The bases Hamilton prevents should be added to his OPS.

Cozart has to prove he can still hit when he comes back before Phillips goes anywhere.

Waldrop took Leake's # 44

It was never Leake's #44. It has always belonged to Eric Davis. Everyone else has only rented it.

Rodriguez swung about 2 months before that pitch went over the plate.

Put me in the camp that thinks Chapman should be starting. Sign him to a 5-yr extension that'll take him through his age 31 season. Use 2016 to stretch him out. A 2017 Rotation of Chapman, Bailey, Stephenson, Iggy and Reed would be insanely good.

Way too wild and one dimensional to be a starter.
