NebraskaRed

Reds lineup: Hamilton 8, Phillips 4, Votto 3, Byrd 4, Bruce 9, Suarez 6, De Jesus 5, Barnhart 2, Desclafani 1

They're facing Patrick Corbin who has pitched well against the Reds in the past, but he only pitched 1.1 innings in his last start, giving up 6 hits, 3 runs, and 2 walks in that short time.

I'm not so sure. I like what that kid in the minors is doing, Blandino. And from everything I've heard, he's a future 2b. Eugenio is good enough to stick at short IMO.

Zack goes to arbitration next year and FA eligible in 2018. I bet they do a two year deal with Zack and keep him at short and then work Suarez in at 2b giving Brandon a bunch of days off.

The scouting report was probably, "Don't let Goldschmidt beat you."

Don't know what the runner going to third was doing, but the runner going to second never got there, which means there is still a force out at 2nd.

Very obvious that both runners peel off before advancing. Not that it matters but the Reds have a legitimate case to protest.

I absolutely hope they protest. This would seem a perfect example of why replays exist. They just now showed footage that plainly shows neither run advanced to their bases.

Today's "Joe Nuxhall Star of the Game" is Arizona LF David Peralta, who was 5-for-5 with a double, an RBI, an a run scored.

Also....when ball was thrown in they first touched 2nd which would be a force out......making the play at 3rd a tag play which would mean the tag would have to happen before the runner crossed home.

Am I missing something? Out of baseline? Runners hugging between 1st and 2nd ....run scored before all the illegal stuff causing a potential 3rd out happened.

Big Klu

My guess is yes, and actually with Price's luck, upon review it would be ruled a ground rule double allowing two runs to score.

CWRed

MLB Network said as soon as the player going to 2nd touched a teammate (they hugged), then he is out. Runner going to 3rd peeled off too so he's supposed to be out as well once the base is tagged. However, they didn't address the ball being touched by a security guard. Only the runner at 2nd being automatically out. I think that they would rule he's out but then it would be a ground rule double since the guard touched the ball so only one runner could be out, and that would be the runner going to 3rd. So, to recap, Bryan Price is an idiot for his handling of the bullpen. :-)

It could be ruled that the runner going to 3rd gave himself up when he left the field, but I think that's a timing play.

Technically, the Reds touched 2nd base first after retrieving the ball to the infield.
That would eliminate the force out at third, thus the run counts.
Reds should give up on that argument.
The game was lost with Bruce's failure to put the ball in play with runners on 1st and 3rd /1 out late in the game. Same old song.

The umpires should have continued to watch their respective bases, much like Brian Doyle-Murray watching the the hole on the 18th green.

I doubt they would overturn the run even if the Reds protested. Like others, though, I wish they would just to make them make a ruling on the play. The D-backs pretty much gave up on running when the Reds watched the ball go over the outfielders' heads and headed in.

No, there is no baseline unless a tag is being attempted.

No, there is no baseline unless a tag is being attempted.

I believe that if Lamb and Peralta crossed into foul territory, before they touched 2nd and 3rd respectfully, they would be out and the run would not count. I am curious to find out the official ruling on this.

Ironman92
08-09-2015, 09:56 PM
Run scored before batter touched runner going to second.....he was passed 1st base and that would've made him the 2nd out and run scored even before that happening......not sure if that makes a force out at 2nd or not but imagine it still is.

I would like a complete explanation from umps. If security officer gets hit by ball in field of play is it dead and a double or is he part of the field like the umps.

Regardless of the rules, whatever they are, the Reds had some nerve appealing that, considering they ran off the field before the ball even landed.

Lost in the discussion of the technicalities of the last play is the fact that the security guard has a better throwing arm than Johnny Damon.
