View Full Version : 8.11.15 Reds @ Padres

Two thoughts:
1. Sometimes I think Price thinks that Votto must enjoy having a different guy hit in front of him every day.
2. I overslept by 5 days and somehow it is now Sunday.

#Reds lineup:

Phillips 4,
Schumaker 7,
Votto 3,
Frazier 5,
Bruce 9,
De Jesus Jr. 6,
Barnhart 2,
Lorenzen RHP,
Hamilton 8

vs:
Colin Rea

http://m.mlb.com/news/article/142393502/rea-takes-on-reds-lorenzen-in-big-league-debut?game_pk=415333

Rea will make his Major League debut as he gets the start for the Padres on Tuesday, opposing Cincinnati at Petco Park.

Rea will take over for Odrisamer Despaigne, who was moved to the bullpen. Rea, 25, made an appearance in the All-Star Futures Game on July 12, after starting the season with a 1.08 ERA, 60 strikeouts and 11 walks in 75 innings (12 starts) for Double-A San Antonio. He was promoted to Triple-A El Paso in early July and had a 4.39 ERA in six starts.

Votto is 3 for his last 26-- no longer elite

Rea used to pitch for my alma mater Northern Iowa before they cut the program. So he will be in all likelihood the last UNI alum to pitch in the big leagues.

But he is worse than Gregg. Regardless of their roles. And he's not some moderate prospect on whom we're kicking tires. There is no reason for this guy to be in the big leagues other than to facilitate our goal of losing more baseball games. He's got a heavy WUP.

Toronto 1/2 game out, Harvey with an 8 inning 4 hitter. I've always said NYC is 1/3 Mets fans, 1/3 Yankee fans, and 1/3 front runners. Lots of "Yankee fans" will soon be changing allegiances.

I don't like the media jumping with the Mets....when they become formidable it's like Rex Ryan and the Jets love. It just gets overblown a bit.

We'll see how they do. Pitching is great and offense doing just enough. I do not trust them but could also see them going on some magical bull crap postseason run.

I do not believe he touched 26 mph on that catch

When it was rumored that Bo Jackson ran a 4 second flat 40, me and my buddies did the math(alright, I did the math) on it at a bar one night to see what kind of speed that is. The answer is 19 mph avg., so hitting 26 would be pretty damned difficult.

Billy can't hit, but he can can run and old age will catch up to him before he will ever hit. Sad but true.

Of course Pharoah can go 40 MPH and carry that speed over a flat mile, so Bo's no big deal.

Fittingly, the pitiful Skippy, who Walt loves because he was a Cardinal make the last out on a weak grounder. I could go on, but you know what I would say. I am so disgusted with the current manager that it's not worth it if no one else sees it.. Good night

I was at the yankee stadium watching the White Sox, not paying much attention, and some dude out in right field threw an absolute lazer to home plate. Who was that out there? It was Bo, after his injury in his last year. Most amazing athlete I've ever seen.

Good question. I would have preferred Ivan Jr. in the #2 spot tonight. My lineup (using tonight's personnel) would have been:

Phillips 2b
DeJesus ss
Votto 1b
Frazier 3b
Bruce rf
Barnhart c
Schumaker lf
Lorenzen p
Hamilton cf

Tonight's "Joe Nuxhall Star of the Game" is Padres RHP Colin Rea. The former Indiana State Sycamore pitched 5 innings allowing 3 runs on 7 hits with 4 K's and 1 BB to earn the win in his major-league debut, and also singled in his first major-league plate appearance.

Why have Skip on the team is a better question. Just like Hannahan and so many others--dumpster can players. And why start him? So dumb. Why leave Lorenzen in until the game is out of reach and then counter with Axlerod when you are out of the pennant race and trying to save your bullpen. Such ignorance. Apparently, no one is thinking on our way to 100 losses. And he will be rewarded for this with the crutch of injuries and all that.

Dusty in the house. I imagine he watched this mess and shook his head in disbelief. Whatever you think of Johnny B, it was never this bad. Blast me all you want because I had my reservation about Dusty, but this is just unbearable and it has nothing to do with the loss of Homer, Johnny, and Mike, It has more to do with in-game decisions and blank looks while the team is embarrassed. Jerry Narron and even Bob Boone probably shake their heads, though they're not worthy.

Sometimes I wonder if Dusty would have had a better way of handling Billy Hamilton's progress, seeing as how he was a young athletic OF early in his playing days. Maybe Billy wouldn't have struggled as much.

I think he had a good relationship with Jay Bruce.

I think this should be Lorenzens last start for the Reds this season. Him getting beat up every start is doing no one any good, especially himself. He'll be lucky to reach his innings limit if this continues.

I didn't see any of this game but I agree with you. More beatings and Lorenzen will have zero confidence. Just shut him down for the season and come back in the spring with a chance to make the staff. Kudo's to those of you who stayed up to watch it all. Even in my younger days I'm not sure I would have stayed up past the 2nd inning.

Nah, I'm not stressing over this at all, Phil. I just cannot align myself with losing and dumb moves. Losing is not as bad a sting these days, however. I expect it every game. When they win like tonight against the Padres, it's a surprise. A nice surprise.
