Better than what they have now, but my favorite Padres uniform is the ones from around 1979 to '84 (the ones they wore in the World Series vs. the Tigers).

In my opinion, the Padres have the ugliest history of uniforms. They keep changing them, trying different and funky fonts and colors and none of them have ever worked, in my opinion.

The Padres need to stick with brown and gold, with a little orange trim.

I'll bet you he's swinging at stuff outside the strike zone at about the same rate as he did in the first half of the season.

I'm not so sure getting someone like Todd to be more disciplined would be productive. I think if these guys were more patient, it would be counter-productive.

I factor those reports in, but 'most say' doesn't mean a whole lot, plus I also go by my eyes and the numbers. Iglesias and Lorenzen are both weird cases, neither one is like a Keyvius Sampson who has spent the last 6 years as a starting pitcher (with a brief stop in the bullpen) in the minors. Lorenzen can throw, obviously, but isn't a pitcher yet. Iglesias is essentially fresh off the boat, he's rail thin, and is still striking out batters at a great clip. They are not finished products or anything close to it. If you want to put them in the bullpen to grow further, I guess I can see that. But a "Nah, they suck, just stick em in the bullpen" mindset is silly.

Lord knows there are no shortage of stat guys around here. ;) Tell you what, we'll make a friendly bet: If Todd is swinging at significantly more pitches outside the strikezone in the 2nd half of the season, the next time I'm in Edinburgh or you're in Cincinnati, I'll buy you a beer and if he isn't you buy me one.

You would think having him swing less at stuff outside the zone would be productive but I'm not so sure. It would probably help most people out - especially when they are in the minors - but if they are still doing it once they get to the Show and they are productive like Todd, having them change may mess them up. Say a guy like Vlad Guerrero. His strike zone was pretty much the whole area code but he still hit well. If he were more patient, maybe he would have hit better (although I'm not sure how much he could improve on what he did) but maybe it would get him thinking too much up there and he'd be thinking more about what pitches to swing at than just making hard contact. Of course there's no way of knowing if that could happen and there's no real way to measure it but I just don't think the same hitting style works for everyone.

Now when Sosa was hitting all those HRs back in the late 90s, he became quite a bit more patient cause he used to swing at everything but some of that was because he was getting pitched around a bunch.

Sounds like you got yourself a deal;)

I agree when you have a unique player/swing like Frazier it may be dangerous to tamper with what has brought success., however when in an elongated slump like Todd it may have been useful to try a slightly different approach.

They played into the Padres' hands. Two on, nobody out, so they bunt. they walk Votto for the open base. Bring in a righty to pitch to Frazietr and he hits a fly ball and a run scores. Lefty in for Bruce and he looks at strike three. Two of your best hitters get the bats taken out of their hands for one run. The run is good, but it could have been so much more.

No matter the Reds record, I'll always have Votto at bats. That was a thing of beauty.

When he homers my dad says either "around goes Frazier" or sometimes "downtown goes Frazier"

This is the most offspeed stuff I've seen Chapman throw in one outing.

There are days when watching Chapman just disgusts me. We've had him for SIX YEARS...and he's just now reaching 300 ip. Talk about a waste of a precious resource. Arrrrrrgh!

Today's "Joe Nuxhall Star of the Game" is Joey Votto, who was 3-for-4 with a HR, 3 RBI's, 3 runs scored, and a BB.

While Chapman is indeed a luxury, I like the fact that in the 8th inning I just hope Hoover can get through it with the lead, because if he can, I know the Reds will win. It never occurs to me that Chappy might actually blow the game.

Who are the Padres announcers?

One of them was Mark Davis. I don't know who the PBP guys was. Dick Enberg has been off this week. Atleast we will get Scully the rest of week in LA.

Iglesias is looking better and better. Right now the Reds have two starters going into next season I feel comfortable with,Disco and Iglesias. After that could be problematical.
