I think the Reds have 2/5 of next year's rotation in place. Disco and Iglesias. Both look like solid guys for the next few years.

Will be interesting to see how they fill out the rotation next season.

I'd like to see Stephenson with one spot and Finnegan with another. Maybe Lamb to fill it out.

(A) They haven't daily run down Votto. Marty has actually been quite complimentary of Votto this season. The man had an opinion on his approach with RISP, and even if it was debatable, it was just an opinion, not a personal attack. Many people here are still getting red-ass about it months later. Both sides of that equation are silly.

(B) Marty said Ted Williams hitting HR in his final AB was perhaps his favorite broadcast moment, and noted how he went to his final farewell with the Sox refusing to tip his cap to the fans. He said he thought Ted was wrong to feel that way, that he held onto that grudge from the 30s for almost two decades. That's not irony. Wooooo was Alannis Morrisette on that one.

I didn't miss that. And at the time he said it, it was accurate, if not foolhearty for discounting the remainder of the season. Votto was completely AWOL for two separate month-long stretches of this season. Didn't piss a drop. But the season is 162 games, and it's great to see him turn things around and be an elite threat at the plate again. I think Marty would be the first to credit him for that, and like I said, he's been very complimentary of him lately.

Starting the season cold isn't all that uncommon, though, even for stars, so I'd throw that out on Posey.

Donaldson and Carpenter both went through a rough patch... but did they experience two? That's part of my point. At the time the "elite" comments came up, Joey had experienced two of those stretches, and certainly was not elite.

But, again, I also noted there's a reason why we count stats for 162 games and not bits and pieces. He's going to come out looking elite if he stays on this trajectory.

One of the big problems with this debate, Bluegrass, is that you are giving Marty a huge break. He didn't say "Votto isn't elite this month" or "Right now, he's not playing at an elite level". He said, and I quote:

"I will not categorize it as criticism. I will categorize it as a statement of fact. Joey Votto is no longer one of the elite players in MLB"

That is a man confidently calling his shot, not a man merely suggesting Votto has had a rough go of it lately. He is letting the world know that Franchester Martin 'Marty' Brennaman, the voice of the Reds for over 40 years, can now clearly see that former MVP Joey Votto is no longer an MVP caliber talent.

And he was dead wrong.

And he was dead wrong.

It was over the top, but given that he had watched a poor 2014 season followed by the first four months of 2015 in which Votto did very little for two of them, I don't think it was completely unfair.

That said, he should have gauged Votto for a season's work and not just a couple of months.

And, as I said earlier, he's been very complimentary of Votto here lately so this daily exercise of taking Marty to task every time Votto does well is just as silly as his original comments. It's time for it to end and move on to something else. Like bashing his offspring. ;)

I just don't buy that he was unproductive for 2 of the first 4 months of this season.

He may have had a week here or there other than May where he sucked but certainly not two months.

When the game thread is about the paid entertainers and not the players and the brain trust, I'm glad I missed it. It's going to be a long almost two months for Reds fans.

At least this game was pleasant to watch. Nice, snappy, well pitched game. Always a pleasure too listening to Scully do the game. The road trip went about as well as what I expected. I thought if they won one game in each place it would be "good" trip for them. So this met might extremely low expectations. The trip to LA was a nice vacation for Chapman. He didn't pitch in a game and only warmed up in the 9th yesterday in what, I'm sure, he knew was a game he would never get into. Probably the most under utilized outstanding pitcher in the history of MLB.
