CF followed by SS. Reminds me of the good ol' days of Dusty.

Byrd has been traded so lineup will change.

klw

New Lineup:

Jason Bourgeois - CF
Eugenio Suarez - SS
Joey Votto - 1B
Todd Frazier - 3B
Jay Bruce - RF
Ivan De Jesus, Jr. - 2B
Skip Schumaker - LF
Tucker Barnhart - C
John Lamb - P

Schumaker in for Byrd. Dejesus moves up a spot in lineup. I am curious as to why Votto would see a strike ever.

Well Schumaker is in the top 1000 in the world at his profession, that alone has to get Votto some pitches to hit.

Touche. My comment was not about Skip as much as it was the lineup 4-8 at the moment. Until Frazier and Bruce get going, why would they not walk Votto?

Can one of you GMs tell me why they don't call someone up for an extended look?

Yorman is hurt. Duvall has tanked since starting hot. That's about it. I guess they could bring up Juan Duran to hit one long HR for every 10 strikeouts. Adding Winker now would be silly.

That said, I probably would have called up Duvall and put him in LF moving forward. But giving him another week or two in Louisville isn't a big deal.

With the trade coming down so late, they weren't getting someone up from the Atlanta area by game time.

He said Goldschmidt is going through the same struggles as Frazier. Goldschmidt's monthly splits tell me that is not the case, even though he is having a below average August. He's not going anywhere nearly as bad as Frazier is.

Nice job by Bruuce on the sac fly, Suarez not so good, out at 3rd.

Sometimes the baserunner goes to third to try and make sure the runner scores. Draw the throw to third and the runner scores easily.

That time, though, Suarez seemed to run late. And the play at home wasn't close. Not a good base running play.

I don't think it teaches the pitcher anything....but I learned that if the right pitches are called he can get out of it....also learned that when he's tired he can't get his fastball in enough for the K and he misses over the plate with it.

It's not a matter of teaching a lesson. It's that some of these pitchers need to get used to pitching deeper in games.

Early this season, Iglesias hit the wall early. Now he's capable of pitching seven solid innings. Reds pushed him and he can now handle it.

Lamb obviously has trouble going beyond four-five innings and Price is trying to push him. No problem with it.

It's not a matter of teaching a lesson. It's that some of these pitchers need to get used to pitching deeper in games.

Early this season, Iglesias hit the wall early. Now he's capable of pitching seven solid innings.

Lamb obviously has trouble going beyond four-five innings and Price is trying to push him. No problem with it.
Iglesias has become more efficient. He's thrown less than 100 pitches in each of his last 3 outings where he went 6, 6, and 7 innings. I don't think having him stay in a game with runners on base over 100 pitches is what got him there.

Price has uniformly pushed these young pitchers. He obviously believes in starters who can pitch 8 innings or so.

I'm not sure what the problem is. This kid Lamb both times out faded in the middle innings. Give him a chance to pitch out of trouble and get through 6. Nothing to lose really. So Mattheus and Villareal will get slghtly fewer innings.

I think this is the disconnect: all the top teams have starting pitchers go 6+ innings, bring in the army of fireballers and bridge the game to the closer. Price seems to think old school in that he's toughening up his pitchers, trying to force them to try and go 120+ pitches to save the pen regardlessly of the quality/restedness of said pen. And it's just one of several reasons that Price won't be managing in MLB for very much longer, even if the reds do decide to let him finish his contract next season.
