Another epic matchup between two longtime rivals of the NL West. The Reds send out the great David Holmberg to the mound......wait....wait. Oh this is 2015. Nevermind, just another mind numbing game in this long 2015 season.

Odd how Thom was excited that Holmberg had 2 outs and JUST 11 pitches and then got out of the inning on 16 pitches. The good part was the 0 runs and then the 1-2-3......but 16 pitches is a 5 2/3 outing.....no cartwheels here

I've cut Holmberg some slack before, thinking that his numbers from AA on down were more of his true self and he just hadn't gotten on a role yet in AAA. But as the Cowboy just said, 87 mph over the middle doesn't play in the bigs.

I remember being at Riverfront on August 25, 1989. It was the first game managed by Tommy Helms after Pete got banned. I was sitting in the lower stands down the 3rd base line. Andy Van Slyke was up and hit a rocket right towards me. I tried to catch it, but it glanced off my hand and I never saw it again. I got booed. The Reds got pounded 12-3 that night. It was a bad night all around. 26 years ago yesterday.

Just began following this classic. I assume the Reds will let Holmberg go after the season. I know they traded for him, but he really shouldn't get more chances to start, now that the Reds have so many kid pitchers who need a chance.

If they keep him, he should be either become a LOOGY or be a AAA starter who can fill-in if there's an injury.

I had hopes for the guy, but enough is enough.

On the other hand, Villareal is earning himself a bullpen role for next year. Pretty consistent and valuable.
