Darryl Dawkins died of a heart attack a few days ago. He was 58. He was the first high school player to go straight to the NBA. He was flamboyant to say the least. He had a nickname for all of his dunks. He was also the first player I ever saw to shatter the backboard as a result from a dunk. In the last few years he had kind of turned into an ambassador for the NBA. RIP Chocolate Thunder.

Loved him and those Sixer teams.
Used to live near Dr. J. All the kids in the neighborhood would keep an eye open for when various members of the Sixers were at his place. I remember kids running/biking/skateboarding up to the rest of us, proclaiming the latest arrivals. The biggest neighborhood freak outs were reserved for Darryl Dawkins.

Loved him and those Sixer teams. OMG, those were the most fun NBA teams to watch ever. (In my opinion) Great memories as a kid watching them.
