Showcasing Shumaker didn't work, so now it's time for Pena to attract a contender in need of a PH or DH, (or back-up catcher in Pena's case).

No. His mechanics are all out of whack and he's having a hard time locating. When he does things perfectly, the movement is incredible but the ball isn't starting over the plate so hitters are taking. The pitch to Lucroy was hung, though.

Chris had it right: the name of the game is not making outs. If you are at bat, then you can score. If you make 3 outs, then you can no longer score. Getting on base is the only way to not make an out. Thus getting on base 44% of the time is better than getting on base 35% of the time.

Rocket surgery for some people, apparently.

I do agree that it's kinda stupid if you're a team with a large lead against the Reds and maybe an out or two on the board. Goes against spirit of competition. If I was a pitcher, I'd wanna go after him and see if I can get him out.

Sabermetrics admits that hits lead to more runs than walks. Singles are valued at .89 runs each, walks at .69 runs each, when figuring out wOBA. Thom is correct that there is some point where a higher batting average is better than a higher OBP, but the example he used is not that point.

Pretty much every saber fan would admit that a hit driven OBP would lead to more runs than a walk driven OBP. He's fighting windmills.

Is Thom heavily medicated tonight? Dude has been so strange all night. The anecdote about being surprised that there are baseball writers who come from a town 45 minutes from a MLB city was beyond weird.

I'm still laughing about the thing about the Brewers mascot controlling the retractable roof.

Iglesias: 7 ip, 4 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks, 10 strikeouts. 4 ERs in his last three starts, zero wins.

ZERO WINS..?!! "Losing effort" as a certain HOF announcer would say.

This could start to get into his head as he might begin to think he's got to be perfect every night or he's going to lose.
