No excuse for the Reds to lose...but they probably find a way.

Look for Kang to hit as he was rested.

It does not matter what Duvall does, be it good or bad....Skip starts the next 2

Well of course and that makes sense, we really need to find out what we have in Skip, not much of a history to go on.

Hopefully not. Billy is expected to be back in the lineup tomorrow, so let's hope Price will move Jason Unknown over to LF.

Its surprising the MLBPA allows that. Hopefully the Reds can take advantage though.

Glad DuVall is finally getting a chance. Unless he's a complete disaster in LF he should be out there the rest of the season.

Crap like this happens every year. They used to have real people (an actual married couple) design the schedule. Selig fired them and now a computer designs the schedule. It's a disgrace.

Would it have made sense for the Pirates to just stay in St Louis and get a decent night's sleep then fly in this morning? Are players that much of night owls that they are adjusted to the odd schedules?

Honest question Tom. Let's say for arguments sake that the Reds are unable to trade Cozart or Phillips this offseason and Cozart is healthy. What do you do? Who plays, who sits?

I'd likely make Cozart the backup infielder in that scenario. I don't hate mth123's idea about having Suarez be the super-utility guy, in the lineup almost every day in whatever position, but I don't really trust the Reds to implement that correctly. I just want to see the guy playing every day, and see no reason to move him off a position he can play.

I'm not opposed to him learning LF (Suarez), but not full time at all. I'd give Phillips and Cozart one day off a week every week and have Eugenio play SS & 2b on those days and LF on the others. I agree that his bat needs to be in there pretty much full time.

Well, so much for this

Finnegan has a spot on the Reds' 40-man roster, though he figures his season is over as of Monday's Bats-Indianapolis Indians finale at Louisville Slugger Field. After that, he plans to head home, decompress and then gear up for 2016, not head to Cincinnati as a September call up.

All these posts about using Chapman early, I've read them for several seasons. You can't warm up Chapman every time there's trouble.

The answer is a deep late inning bullpen with three or four good choices. Four IMO.

Here's my theory on that: The debate has evolved into a specific situation ... eighth inning, heart of the order coming up, score is close enough for a save. There's your save, not the ninth after the danger has passed. It's not that much more frequent than a traditional save, except when you have a closer that hasn't pitched for a week.

That specific situation doesn't come up that often, and right now Aroldis should be limited to his usual situation. Don't want any injuries, nothing unusual.

More generally, the eighth inning thing is certainly possible, but it does leave Hoover as your ninth inning closer. I have no objection to it.

It does ask Aroldis to pitch out of his comfort zone. Which may be no big deal. It may be a big deal. Don't know.

But the bottom line for me is that I want a closer, two good set up men, and a fourth guy usable when someone is tired. That's the best way to solve this problem IMO.

That sounds like Bob Walk. Pirates have been bad against the NL Central this year. When you see that record against the central you wonder how in the world they have the record they do. That sounds like Bob Walk. Pirates have been bad against the NL Central this year. When you see that record against the central you wonder how in the world they have the record they do. They may win their play in game against the Cubs but they won't beat the Cardinals,Dodgers or Mets in the playoffs.

For what it's worth, the Pirates are 9-0 against the Dodgers and Mets this season.

Walt just has to do something about LF over the winter.

I vote we just give it to Winker and be done with it. Starting in 2016 from day one. Sink or swim.

The ninth inning may present a "save" situation too. It may be a tough inning too.

All these posts about using Chapman early, I've read them for several seasons. You can't warm up Chapman every time there's trouble.

The answer is a deep late inning bullpen with three or four good choices. Four IMO.

I don't think you should warm up Chappy early just in case there's trouble either. But if the 8th inning has the heart of the order coming up...I send him out there and let a lesser arm deal with the lesser hitters in the 9th.
