Votto will be on his best behavior....no matter how bad the umps are.

My only fear is that Votto's May cold spell started right after the ejection/suspension.

That ejection was on the 6th with the suspension being for Game 1 on the 9th.
http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.cgi?id=vottojo01&t=b&year=2015

At the time of the ejection his slash was 323/427/596/1023

by May 27 he was down to 275/371/474/834

the 834 is the low point for his season's OPS (with exception of after the 2nd game)

Votto turns 32 today. It's like they say, if you're not a rebel by the age of 20, you got no heart, but if you haven't screamed angrily in an ump's face by the time you turn 32, you've got no fancy coffee drinks.

This is a learning experience for Lamb. He's definitely having a harder time putting guys away than what he was used in the lower levels and that's leading to some walks. When he figures things out in the bigs I think we're going to see outs instead of all these walks and even some hits when he gives in a little. It's not as simple as just throwing fewer pitches and walking fewer guys. Quick out there helps!

Think I read the Pirates train starting pitchers to get outs within three pitches.

A starter has to find a way to be reasonably pitch efficient.

Lamb's pitches mount up with the Ks. But he doesn't get easy outs against the other guys.

Twice this game he had potentially easy innings and extended them. That last inning walking the pitcher.

If he's going to start, he has to fix this, or else he'll be in the bullpen. He'd be a good reliever IMO.

Limiting it to a specific set of years makes it unbalanced at the outset. Pedro's best years came right after the decade ended. Let's also recall that Pedro was in the AL while Maddux was in the NL right in the prime of the long-ball era. I recall a poster saying that pitch count isn't Lamb's problem.

I responded to that.

Was it me? Cause I do think it's an issue, I'm not denying that it exists, but it's not my big concern with Lamb. I know you have a 7 innings, 7 innings, 7 innings mindset, but you have to learn to crawl before you walk. It's hard enough to get major league hitters out and that's what I most want to see Lamb do consistently. Once you've figured out how to do that, then you worry about pitch count and cutting down on waste pitches. He's clearly durable.

You really think Sampson is that close to Stephenson? I see Sampson as a maybe for the bullpen. He walks a ton of guys.

Lamb, IMO, is a maybe starter who would be dynamite pitching late inning relief. Pitch count less important, the high Ks would be very important and effective.

These guys may have come up soonest, but I'm thinking that Stephenson, Finnegan, maybe Reed, Garrett, Travieso, will all prove to be better suited for major, starting roles.

We'll see.

Bittersweet night.....should be basking in this "Redbird" beat down but Grande has ruined it for me....I'd bet if you ask Welsh he even fills the booth with bad breath

With the exception of one "he plays the game the right way," I thought George was fine last night. Honestly, I'd take him every day of the week if I didn't have to listen to Thom Brennaman call one more game.

Oh no...not Linda Antus, I'd rather hear Thom or watch Skip

I'd rather blow my brains out. I'm glad I missed that. I had to go make my lunch for the next work day. Glad I forgot when I was in the kitchen earlier.

Absolutley. I can see where people can by annoyed with Grande. He tends to expound on the other team, not just the Cardinals, during his telecasts. I think he just loves baseball and appreciates other good players. As for Thom, his constant beating of the drum about whatever the rant of the day is gets really old, really fast. I really can't stand listening to him much anymore. He's one reason I'm glad football is back. That means less of him on Reds telecasts.

Always good to beat the Cardinals. I wish I could have stayed up for this 11-0 pounding. We may not see that again for quite a while. If Lamb can ever get command of the strike zone he may be just fine. He's a typical young pitcher right now trying to find that command. Hopefully it will come.
