A sweep would be nice. Reds have hurt the Cards as the Pirates are right back in the NL central race.

Looks like Cardinal network only for TV. Yuck, I can't stand them. May not watch much of this one today then.

Damnit, one on one out and Heyward grounds one to Iglesias but he rushes it a bit and throws it past 2nd base, everyone safe.

Votto makes a ridiculous play that looks like a DP, though the ump called the runner safe at 1st. Reds will challenge.

It's overturned, inning-ending DP hit into by Molina.

I would enjoy the Cards choking more if it weren't against the Cubs and Bucs.

Yeah as much as I enjoy seeing the Cardinals collapse, knowing that it benefits the Cubs and Pirates makes it a little less sweet. I don't want to see any of them make it to the World Series.

Bourgeois singles and is easily thrown out trying to steal 2nd, might have been a failed hit and run.

I'm forcing myself to watch the Cardinal feed on Extra Innings. All I have to say is... If you thought Thom was hard to listen too...

I enjoy the extreme over-excitement about every...single...play.

I've got the Cardinals feed volume fairly low and the football game on my TV slightly louder, so I can kind of make out what the Cardinals announcers are saying but not enough that I hear everything and how annoying they are. Working well so far.

3 scoreless for Raisel so far. 1 hit, 0 walks, 3 strikeouts (2 of which were Matt Carpenter).

Just looking at the game on a small computer screen, can't tell very much.

But just get the sense the Cards are playing a little tight.

Robert Duvall HBP right on the hand.

Looked incredibly painful.

Walks to Frazier and Suarez and a HBP of Duvall load them up with one out. Barnhart lifts a sac fly to center.

double, wild pitch, and a long Wong at-bat drives in the run on an infield single up the middle

Ugh. Iglesias called for a balk and Carpenter with a flare single to right ties the game 2-2.

God, this long for Iglesias inning is getting ugly. Suarez throws the ball away, not even sure how to describe what happened there.

E #15 for Suarez. I love his potential...but he does have a ways to go.

Error on Suarez. Gave the hitter a single, and an error 6,

I don't know why Iglesias is still pitching this season. He was a reliever, didn't pitch at all last year.

Guy has accomplished a great deal, not sure what is being accomplished now.

2-2 after 4.5 innings. Hope they just take Iggy out.

Tom Servo
09-13-2015, 02:39 PM
Inning mercifully over, Iglesias had been cruising but that inning took about 30+ pitches or so, the lead is gone, and now he might not even pitch the 6th.

I mean, what is being accomplished. Last time Iggy was hit pretty hard. Today trouble in the fifth.

They aren't stretching him any more. When right, he can go seven, he's shown that.

Not sure he's refining anything.

Anything that might happen won't be good. I feel the same about Lorenzen.

OK, today they want to sweep the Cards, ok, fine. But if I were GM, I'd tell Iggy to go binge watch some cable shows and work out occasionally.

Based on the Cardinals' announcer's voice, they just won the world series.

IMO they are indeed still stretching him out. I'm guessing they're probably shooting for around 120-130 innings or so.

Stretching out usually means going deeper in games. Iglesias has already pitched 7 innings several times IIRC, they aren't using him deeper.

As for the overall innings, as a reliever who didn't pitch last year, this seems adequate to me. He's laboring more in the middle innings now.

Need to baby these arms a little. Use Josh Smith to start some games.

Sam not throwing strikes. Not a good plan.

I tend to err on the side of caution, but Iglesias is such a weird case that I don't really feel comfortable hazarding a guess as to what his innings limit should be. I think he's close to getting shut down, but I don't blame the Reds for wanting to let him pitch quite a bit this year to get him ready for a full season workload next year.

Ideally it would mean going deep in games. But I'm talking about his seasonal innings workload and # of pitches thrown. And he went only 5 innings and didn't reach 90 pitches. I've got confidence that the Reds know what they're doing regarding handling these pitchers' workloads. At least a heck of alot better than I sure do. But I get your point. Err on the side of caution. They seem to be doing that IMO.

Side note: the Cardinals 6-8 hitters have a total of 11 letters in their last names. I assume this is a MLB for letter thriftiness by 3 consecutive hitters.
