It's not the University of Virginia's Hockey team, but it's a club team from the University. It's a little bit different, but the timing of the beer was pretty strange by the guy.
I know times are different, but in high school, our club soccer practices had a keg at every practice. We didn't even have a Coach. We coached ourselves. We organized our own schedule and games. We had a keg at every practice. This was the mid-70's. Half the time we weren't even at school during the daytime, and we'd still manage to graduate. Parents and teachers weren't so anal like they are today, and so damn over-protective. Everybody turned out fine, owned businesses as adults, did well in College for those who went, and were good Citizens. But, we didn't have a keg during a game. What was this guy thinking?

I remember pounding quite a few brews during intramural bowling in college.

What is intramural bowling?
You mean going bowling on a Thursday night with your friends?

So my oldest son is in first grade, at what grade am I considered over protective for preferring he not skip half the school year to drink beer with his friends? Probably no later than fourth or fifth grade, right?

If I have to explain it to you, then you obviously can't see the point where you're over-protective.

Yeah, literal is the way I would have tackled that question as well.

Club hockey?!? They should have ejected all the players who DIDN'T chug a beer at that point.
