Maybe if they get lucky, there could be a rain delay! That would be novel. I am surprised California has not tried to bring in the Reds for drought busting purposes especially after it worked on their last trip west.

Nice play by Polanco getting Sampson at first on a should've been hit....was playing shallow and it was a line drive 1 hopper....Polanco threw a laser to first.

Did he run hard? I didn't notice, but Marty B on radio said no, he didn't run hard. Marty's view, not mine.

Either way, whether you blame Keyvius or not, it's a freakish play going against the Reds. Nightmare season.

Polanco also did that earlier this season. He plays very shallow on those types of hitters.

Holt in CF made an excellent catch. Just looking at his credentials and fielding ability, he's not a bad fifth outfielder candidate for next season. Pretty good pick up.

Haven't seen video to re watch it but as soon as he hit it and camera showed where Polanco was I said out loud that he was gonna get him....the timing of it tells me he was running. It didn't seem at all like he was going 2/3 speed....but will watch again.

To me it's similar to the deep 2nd base shift and throwing out David Ortiz...basically the same spot

My point was not to blame Keyvius. Just another freakish play in a nightmare season. Many pitchers don't go blazing down the base paths.

Yes. On the other hand, Frazier has really fallen off a cliff. Probably could have used some more rest in the second half.

Marty would argue that Frazier's OPS was 106 points higher without runners on base so by constantly getting on base Votto was sabotaging his teammate.

Cingrani walks in a run. What ever happened to Tony Cingrani. 4-2, bases still full of Pirates.

Now Cingrani against Alvarez. Two quick strikes. Cingrani tougher on lefties.

Force at second, 4-3 game, first and third, one out for Pirates. Sixth inning.

Jumbo coming in for Tony C.

Remember the Aoki/Morse prediction of last off-season?

So the Reds passed on both of them, opting for Byrd, perhaps because he was less expensive in salary.

So now, Morse is on the Pirates' BENCH. That's the kind of thing that explains where these teams are.

My response to your first sentence is that it is a giant waste of money and I'm glad it's not the Reds who are paying him.

To your further point I suspect this goes back to Marlon Byrd 2013, but I'm over it. They did get 2010 Jim Edmonds so I think it could go either way. You don't always have to bring over an old crusty guy.

Well, you can go with Michael Morse; or you can go with Jason Bourgeois.

The Reds did pick up Jim Edmonds once, late, but usually entrusted their bench to journeymen.

The Pirates, also a smaller market team, have been willing to supplement the bench with players of better quality when they have a chance to win.

Chuckie

Edmonds was not a legit pickup when the Reds acquired him. He could barely walk.

A good example of a late-season pickup is Billy Doran by the '90 Reds.

The Pirates of late are a better run organization than Cincinnati. That's the complaint from me.

But speculating on a signing like Morse is a drop in the bucket when it comes to the real problem IMO.

Could never figure out that mentality. What exactly is the difference between a 2nd or 3rd draft pick? is there a Jordan out there? An Aaron Rodgers. Oh that's right Jordan wasn't the top pick. And Rodgers was what... #24?

It is what it is at this point.

Specific examples aside there are graphs out there that show the type of player you should expect to get exponentially drops for the first few picks. I understand never rooting for the Reds to lose. But I don't understand the guffawing at the thought of the 2nd pick being better than the 4th.

He is on the verge of being a megastar. But his OBP is holding him back. Only a wRC+ of 117 and a WAR of just over 4. Not a Coors mirage as his H/R splits are similar. Interesting guy to follow.

He's one of those guys in a position that I'm not quite as sure about....yeah he needs some more walks but batting 4th without much of anything behind him....I wonder how many of his 88 extra base hits came when he maybe could've been more patient and took a walk later in the AB....yeah he obviously increased his total of outs made but 88 extra base hits....hard for me to fathom taking those extra outs made combined with a huge extra base hit number vs maybe working a 1 or 2 out walk with not much behind him to knock in.

I don't want this post to blow up the board but I have trouble believing his team would have scored more runs unless he had a great amount more walks.

Cheesehead here. packers beat Dallas the last game of the year and got Mandarich instead of Troy Ackman. I'd still root for the Pack to win that game and I don't think whether you pick 2d or 4th is that big a deal. (barry Sanders was the 4th pick that year). Particularly this organization. Not guffawing about any aspect of the 2015 season though.

I don't think guffaw means what I thought it did.

Marte...sheesh. If not for him the Reds would be 12-5 vs the Pirates

I don't know if he is getting dinged a lot for Coors or what. I agree to my naked eye his wRC+ doesn't make sense...but I trust it. Heck Francisco Cerevilli (who is having a great year) is a couple points higher than Nolan in wRC+.

I'd say the odds are even money that Kevius is gonna Kev at some point tonight...taking more than 4 runs to win.

Interesting to me....with 2 outs this year he has 21 HR, 14 doubles and 59 RBI

My point, though, is that Morse is getting paid a free agent starting player's salary.

Yet the Pirates brought him in and are paying his (pro rated) salary to provide depth.

Is that something the Reds would do?

For the record, the Pirates traded Jose Tabera for Morse. Their salaries were about equal. I think Tabeta was actually getting paid more overall.

I remember when the Phils lost 23 in a row- it was the year we won the Pennant. With Frankie and Pinson and Joey Jay. Fortunatly the end of the season will not allow us to break that record. Can't allow this though- somebody has to be held responsible. Not just the manager. Blow the whole thing up. Start by getting Alderson on the phone and see if we can get wheeler for Jay.

Didn't seem like anyone here is actively celebrating, it just is what it is.
