Corey Ray ain't got nothing on Jeren Kendall. http://www.tennessean.com/story/sports/college/vanderbilt/2016/02/22/vanderbilts-jeren-kendall-gets-national-sec-awards/80780534/
Kendall already tonight has a walk, a hit, RBI, 2 R, 2 SB through 3 innings.

Ray was 5-6 today and is hitting .733 on the season with 3 HR, 9 RBI and 13 runs scored through 4 games. Superman.
I'm assuming San Diego sucks far less than SIU-Edwardsville and EKU, though.

When I was in law school there, the baseball stadium was across the street and really kind of a dump. I went to a few games there, but it was not at all impressive. I wish the renovations would have happened before my time in Chapel Hill.

I camped at and played some high school and other tournaments there as a kid. I of course loved it back then, having locker rooms, cages etc under the bleachers was amazing to a young kid used to run down little league fields. I felt like a big leaguer. Bill Clinton actually came to a high school Easter tourney I was playing in while he was running for his first election-I have a baseball signed by hm.
The new stadium after renovations is amazing. Boston, if ever back down this way hit me up and I will take you to a game.

Went to the final game of series yesterday and it was such a nice day, little chilly but not bad at all and clear skies-perfect for watching an early season baseball game. UNC swept the series, all 3 games were walk off hits.

Louisville, fresh off a nice series win at Carolina, head to Vandy tonight. Your boys are going down tonight dabvu!
It is interesting that Louisville's mdweek starter is 9-0 heading into tonight's game. Louisville is 22-2 in non-conference games, and both losses were in a weekend series at Ole Miss.

Nothing like a home game vs. #5 in the country sandwiched between trips to #1 and #2 in the country! Darn SEC scheduling monkeys! VU is also 22-2 non-conference but their offense has really struggled at times.

Oregon State just got swept this weekend by ASU. They can't get it together in the league, one that looks to be it's worse in a very long time. Can't see but one or two winning a Super Regional this year.

Always happy when good things happen for Scott Googins. He's the best.
Wright State qualified for the second year in a row as well. 44-15 after being 43-16 last year. They better get their coaching search shoes ready.

Same place they got sent two years ago. I guess we will see more articles about how Googs and Corbs were coached by the same coach at Ohio Wesleyan.
I'm taking it as a good omen, though. 2014 was a good year for the VandyBoys.

Good luck to everyone's favorite team this year. Don't get to root for the Beavers this year as they orchestrated an epic collapse in Pac-12 play, finishing 3rd, but only 14-12 in a weak conference.
The REDS will have a chance to get some quality help in the draft from some of these College stars. Pitching dominates the NCAA tourney and some outstanding Starters will shine.

It probably just feels like it because I follow VU sports closely, but there have been some awful things happen to the VU family in the last few years. Kwane Doster, Rajaan Bennett, Stephen Gant, Dai-Jon Parker and now this.

I wasn't going to come down. But I did. It felt good for everyone to be together for about an inning or two and now I think everyone just hopes its over soon. I dunno, maybe the kids feel differently. We will find out soon.
Also weird... I was sitting in my friend's office in the McGugin Center last night when we got word Ali died. Where I was sitting was probably less than 40 feet away from where I'd had a chance encounter with Ali back in 1996. (I literally bumped into him in the hallway.)

So Louisville has three first rounders, a second rounder and a pitcher who went in the first round last year but came back who hasn't been drafted yet this year. And none of those five is Louisville's best player. Feeling pretty good about Louisville's chances over the next couple of weeks!

Is that crazy. They hosted 14 of the 16 Super Regionals. No Pac-12 team got to host one. That's a joke, as was Oregon State getting snubbed for the tournament. They tied for 3rd in the Pac-12 with Arizona and won the season series against Arizona. They swept UCLA the final weekend of the regular season. Arizona made the College World Series having to win someone else's Super Regional.

Arizona obviously has turned out to be really good....but the Pac-12 champion had a losing record. It's hard to blame the people selecting the tournament field for not giving the Pac-12 much credit this year.

They didn't host one last year, either. Politics.
Oregon State's non-conference record was excellent, and they finished 3rd in a major conference that regularly wins the College World Series more than any other conference.

Honestly, I'd like to see the reasoning behind the idea that any Pac-12 team should have hosted this year. There's no team that even came close to having a case. Arizona is #12 in the RPI NOW, but that's after their Tournament tear. No one had them even in the top 25 pre-tournament. Utah won the league, had a losing record and a horrible RPI. Washington was also not very good.
I can see a complaint about Oregon State. They were a bubble team that could have been in for sure. But there is NO argument I could see that would have had a Pac-12 team hosting.
Kingspoint
06-29-2016, 05:37 PM
It wasn't that a Pac-12 team should have hosted this season. They shouldn't have. They should have last season, though. But, it's about 14 of the 16 hosts were from two conferences. Way too much weight given to those conferences, undeservingly.
dabvu2498
06-29-2016, 05:52 PM
Of course, last year 6 of the final 8 teams, 3 of the final 4, and the final 2 were from those two conferences.
And I know that this is not the be-all-end-all in the conference strength argument but last year the SEC/ACC combined for 9 first round draft pics. Pac12: 2. This year -- SEC/ACC: 14. Pac12: 2. And one of those two didn't pitch an inning all year (Quantrill).

Oh. Crap. I forgot...
UCLA was the actual overall #1 seed last year. They did host a first round weekend and would have hosted a super regional. Except that they got beat twice by #3 regional seed Maryland (of the ACC) twice.
