This game will be on MLB Network at 9 pm tonight. IIRC, FSO is televising live at 3 pm.

I was looking forward to this one because of the scheduled pitchers, but the lineup itself, with the three outfielders and Peraza, intrigues. I'm recording because I won't be home until about 5:30, and the replay cuts things out (I don't know whether the MLB network broadcast will or not.)

The most important question is: who's in the best game thread shape of their life?

Cody Reed is scheduled to pitch today too. We will get a first look at two of our best pitching prospects today.

Also for your viewing pleasure today, FSOhio is showing an hour-long State of the Franchise Roundtable Discussion (with Walt & Dick & maybe a few others) at 2pm, with a 7pm replay. My DVR is already set for what I'm sure will turn out to be two grown men disagreeing about everything because they are not on the same page.

Or maybe not.

I don't think this really deserves it's own thread so I'll post it here since Billy is starting today:

Benched for failing to get an extra base hit yesterday. Are we concerned yet?

Just tuning in now. How did Stephenson look?

Larkin11
03-02-2016, 03:27 PM
Stephenson's stuff looks great, but we're already getting a glimpse of the control issues, especially with the fastball.

C. Trent Rosecrans ‏@ctrent 11m11 minutes ago

A walk and that’s it for Stephenson. Went to a full count on 3 of 4 batters faced

Mark Sheldon ‏@m_sheldon 11m11 minutes ago

Scoreless first inning w/ a walk for Stephenson. Went to full counts on 3 of his 4 batters. #reds

John Fay ‏@johnfayman 13m13 minutes ago

Stephenson throws a scoreless first. Got a lot of swing-and-misses. #reds

Just tuning in now. How did Stephenson look?Just tuned in as well so I'm not sure, but Suarez with the glove in the hot corner! That was a pretty good play for someone who had questionable defense when we was first brought up.

Cody Reed warming up.

Stephenson looked pretty good. Great movement on his pitches. Swinging strikeouts with the changeup and curve. Some batters (esp. right handers) were letting the curve go on the outside corner and not chasing. About 40 pitches though for 2 innings.

Reed up next.

Wow. Reed looks great. Love how fast he works.

Yes, I understand it's one inning in ST.

Stephenson looked ok, I don't like how much difficulty he has locating his fastball. Reminds me of young Homer Bailey.

Sweet baby Jesus. Cody Reed is filthy.

Future ace. He looks even better than RobSteve ... and it's not even close. And RobSteve looks really good!

I'm happy right now.

Reed's looked really impressive. The fastball location seemed on point and getting a read on the slider out of his hand seems really difficult. Worked really fast, threw I think 1 ball.

Elam

Seriously that fastball/slider combo is nasty. If he can work in an average changeup he could be a monster.

Votto with the definition of being forced to due an interview. He was one step above Marshawn Lynch.

Me = not laughing now.

Reed also has attitude on the mound ... without being cocky (if that makes any sense).

And as others have mentioned, he works fast. I love that.

Love everything about him. Wow.

If Raisor's cat is named Votto, does that mean Votto's dog is named Raisor?

Nice piece of hitting by Napoli. Wasn't going to bite on that slider, just waiting for that fastball.

Why is John Fay at spring training? I thought he retired.

My read on the situation was that the Enquirer essentially forced retirement on him so they could hire someone younger and pay them less in order to save money in the long run. Immediately upon announcing he was retiring from the paper, he was making it known he was still going to be covering baseball. None of this is actual inside information, just how I read the situation as it played out.

It's game one of ST. And as for last year, the HR/9 after he was called back up wasn't bad. 7 appearances in July, no HR's one in August in 14 appearances, 3 in September in 13 appearances. None in 2 apperarances in Oct.

He was bad to start the year was sent down to make adjustments and he did. Jumbo Diaz isn't a problem for this pitching staff. 1.19 HR/9 isn't horrible. 1.95, what it was when he was sent down, that is horrible.

Is he wearing a mask?

Did they announce him as the Midnight Rider?

Is JJ Dillon offering a $10,000 bounty to take his mask off?

What is Jim Crockett going to do if it is Juan under that hood?

Eugenio Suarez looks very balanced at the plate. If he handles the low and away stuff so much the better.
