Brandon Allen gets another start and is clearly challenging that Votto kid for the first base position.

You never updated the Votto extra base hit thread.

I think you're an Allen partisan.

Oh my ! Schebler!

My obsession with all things schebler is now turned up to 11. A home run - lefty on lefty crime against Bumgarner. Yowza.

Cave--Winker-Schebler. Is it possible we have the makings of an outfield that can actually hit?

Facing Bumgarner, Winker hitting in the 3 hole, lefty on lefty...hard RBI single, and Schebler in the 5-hole with the 2-run bomb. Nice.

The winker single was a nice piece of hitting too , for sure.

Baumgarner a bit rusty. 3 hits, HR, HBP, WP in the first.

3-0 Reds after half an inning.

Newsflash: Big league caliber hitters can hit a spring training fastball at the letters. Someone should tell Madison Bumgarner.

Disco gives up two hits and a walk, but limits the damage with two force outs that drive in runs.

Reds 3-2 after 1

Cave bunting? Seems a strange choice even for spring traning

Both pitchers settle down. Cabrera hits a double off of Baumgarner. Disco sets them down in order.

3-2 Reds after 2

Krukow said his hands were steady and tight, with little movement in a nice compact swing

Parker hits a 2 run shot off of Disco in the third.

4-3 Giants after 3

Disco had a disaster outing against SF last year, didn't he? Guess they just have his number.

Yeah - was lucky to catch the at-bat on mlb network - he was very calm at the plate - looks like he has an idea up there.

Came back from 0-2 in count to work it full before striking out in next at bat too.

The two teams exchange runs, Sanchez replaces Disco in the fourth and gives up a run on two walks, two his and sac fly. He would have given up more, but the Giants had a runner thrown out at 3rd to end the inning before the run could score.

Giants 5-4 after 4

Great job being a leader by Brandon Phillips not running with two outs and LF muffed it and he had to stop at 3rd and of course didn't score. Cost a run.

Sanchez gives up a bunch of runs. Had to be relieved by Cingrani, who gave up a triple scoring some of them.

Giants 9-4 after 5

BTW, That's it for me tonight for PBP.

Donald Lutz pinch hits with two outs and the bases loaded. A wild pitch scores one, and a Lutz double brings home a couple. 9-7 as they stretch in the seventh.

O'Grady surrenders 5 runs in one-third of an inning. St. Patrick's Day canceled.

It's now 14-7, Giants. Pitchers throwing batting practice especially O'Grady and Conteras. Lots of kids and bad pitchers in spring training. Giants are in the bottom of the 8th and have the bases loaded against Conteras and he's 3-2. Another run scores on a groundout. They remove Conteras after 38 pitches. Surely Arroyo or Harang could do better, or not. Pitching change. Hayes in to pitch with runners on second and third. Allows a base hit on the second pitch. 16-7. Strikeout to end the inning.

Reds go quietly in the 9th. 16-7.

Eh, I got no real problem with it. He pitched decently in Venezuela and really his only purpose would have been to soak up some innings before guys like Reed and Stephenson get the callup, but even on that front so far guys like Finnegan and Lorenzen have been throwing the ball well to make their cases for the rotation.

I believe Tim Melville will pitch tomorrow along with Lorenzen, he's a dark horse favorite of mine.

That's all fine - but there were plenty of better options to do that than Sanchez if you are taking a flier.
