Embarrassing performance by Stephenson already. He's easily the most frustrating Reds pitching prospect of my lifetime.

Runs the count full but Ks the next batter.

Zero control and just has no idea where the ball is going. Almost hit two batters. Fell behind every hitter. Outside of an injury, that was as bad as you could see. 2 k's though....

2nd K of the inning finally ends it.

RobSteve not ready for primetime just yet, not really a surprise.

On the radio, Marty noted that Stephenson's velocity has been down 3-4 mph so far in camp.

If Doug is out in Arizona, and if Doug is reading the game thread, will he please streak sometime soon to bring some excitement to this snoozefest. That was the most boring six-run (combined) inning that I have ever witnessed. Thanks in advance, Doug.

Moscot threw two innings of one-hit, no-run baseball in a minor league game today.

The Brennamanati are very impressed with Stephenson's curve.

Votto goes yard as the Reds grab a 4-3 lead. Spring training stats aside, he is probably gonna win a spot on the 25-man. Phillips doubles again. Ditto.

Stephenson's line though. My goodness.

Add this with poor command and there is reason to be concerned IMO.

Drew Hayes allowed a hit but struck out the side in the 4th. He's really pushing to make to the OD roster.

Reds win on a Phillips hit 9-8. He went 3-5 and led the Reds to their fourth straight win. Pitching was, as Randy Newman would say, "It wasn't good, it wasn't bad, but it was pretty bad." Stephenson pitched 3 innings and only allowed two hits, but walked five and struck out four. He pretty much leaves spring with a 9.55 ERA, and I know, it's only ST, but he needs more work.

Brah, im not ready to throw in the towel, but come on, when does he start pitching well?

I realize this is non-baseball game related, but did anyone else catch Marty's ever-growing tired act went he went off last night on whoever was running the controls when they dared to not cut off the intro music quickly enough for Marty's liking? This guy is way too full of himself. I grew up listening to baseball on the radio back in the olden days when at max you got 2 or 3 televised games per week, and I still have a great fondness for listening as opposed to gluing myself to a chair to watch a game. In spite of my appreciation for radio broadcast baseball Marty flat takes the fun out of it. The guy is like the angry old jerk in your neighborhood that you have to warn your kids to stay away from. Only difference for me is that Marty and I are close enough in age that it would be my grandkids and I wouldn't warn them to stay away from him, I'd just go kick his pansy ass if/when he ever said a word to them.

Stephenson definitely isn't ready for the show yet. With his inconsistent control you begin to wonder if he ever will be.

Hopefully when the season actually begins. It wasn't a good outing, but you may recall that Chuckie has been ready to throw the towel in for quite some time.

He's not ready to be a regular MLB starter. Honestly not sure why anybody might have thought differently going into spring training. His 4.7 BB/9 last season tells you as much. He needs more time in AAA to work on control. But the future is still very bright.

Just flipped through that thread, pretty classic stuff.

In early May I said the Reds should trade Cueto for a group of pitching prospects in case Stephenson doesn't pan out.

Prophetic!

I'm so flattered Tom remembers all my posts and threads. It's impressive. Thanks Servo!

For the record, my position hasn't changed. I don't think Stephenson will ever be a good MLB pitcher. I hope I'm wrong. I REALLY hope I'm wrong. But he just doesn't have the necessary command. Maybe it will click one day for him. Let's all hope.

(Then Tom can bump this thread in a couple years to see if I was right or wrong.)
