Opening Night (why is this a thing?)

Because Opening Day is so expensive and just a crazy day that they wanted to give a similar experience without ALL the craziness. You get fireworks, live music, Reds players walk through the fan zone pre-game, etc. It's actually pretty cool. Too bad the weather has not cooperated the last couple years.

TECHNICALLY yes, but that's because Robert just had a birthday a few weeks ago and Finnegan's is in about a week when he turns 23. So Stephenson is actually about 2 months older. Also of note is that Cody Reed is just one day younger than Finnegan.

Like everyone else said, it's marketing. They are making it an event that is almost on a par with Opening Day. Before, you'd draw 10-15K for the first night game. That's if it wasn't cold. Lot of people had to work Monday. This gives them the opportunity to participate in the pomp similar to Opening Day.

If it's a rainout it probably won't be made up tomorrow. Seems they don't want to schedule doubleheaders this early in the season unless they absolutely have to. Looking at the Reds schedule, they have every Thursday odd in July including July 21 which is in the middle of a homestand. September 15 is also in the middle of a homestand

I went to the first Opening Night a few years ago when this became a thing (not the Sunday night thing that pissed Marge off). I froze my butt off watching fireworks and the Rusty Griswold (who I like alot and the keyboardist is the Reds organist.) Opening night is overrated.

I agree but you can't argue with results. They started this in 2010. Since then they have averaged 34.5K a game for Opening Night. From 07-09 they averaged 17.3K a game. So they are drawing twice as much now as they did when they did nothing.

Should be a window to start the game at 7. Then if the downpour comes around 9 as expected, there can be a delay and play can resume late tonight (early tomorrow morning?). Looking at the hour-by-hour forecast, there shouldn't be any rain from 7-9. Also, while the downpour is expected around 9, there doesn't seem to be another storm system behind it. Once that passes, the conditions should be fine. Well, very cold, but at least dry.

It might be a very long night, but I bet we see baseball tonight.

It does look like there is a gap between the two lines of rain. Sky should even brighten. Question is will it be timed right and be long enough?

HRRR shows the gap filling in a bit and not giving a break, though it backs off on the intensity for a bit.

I've got him in both my money leagues (including a keeper league). He has only SS eligibility right now, but will soon have 3B too. What a fantasy steal he will be this year. I think the same will be true of Mes.

He looks good. One thing I can't tell is if that high strike over the middle is an intentional tactic to try and get them chasing a la Doc Gooden or if he's missing his spots a little. Given the results so far, I'm wanting to believe its part of his plan.
