What is wrong with us?!? No Masters thread at almost 1pm on Friday is inexcusable!
I've got Sergia at 40-1 and Rose at 18-1, so I like my position so far. However, I'm obviously afraid the Spieth is going to run off and hide this afternoon, never to be seen again by his challengers.
I was too busy walking around Augusta National on Wednesday to start a thread. :)

I could use some of my guys to wake up and charge towards the front of the field. I'm losing my work pool.

How about the amateur 6 solid holes away from going into the weekend right in the hunt. That would be a fun story for sure. And kudos to Spieth for being generous to the rest of the field so far today.

Don't look now but 58 year old Bernhard Langer is one shot off the lead.

My dad is a retired club pro. About ten years ago he went to the tournament as a spectator and couldn't find a good parking spot, so he parked in the PGA bigwig lot. A security guy asked him if he was allowed to park there and my dad told him that he was a retired pro and they let him stay there.
He just didn't mention he wasn't a touring pro.
Details.

Jordan goes full A A Ron Balackay with the driver on 17 and 18 and ends his round bogey, double. He maintains a one-shot lead over the sure-to-be answer to a future trivia question, Smylie Kaufman.
I hope the wind dies down for tomorrow because Augusta playing like the U.S. Open sucks the fun out of the tournament.

I think Spieth fades. His game wasn't in top shape coming in to the tournament. He played a great round Thursday but has just been holding it together since. I was less surprised by his tee shots on 17 and 18 than I was his pitch shots. Those were 2 of the worst you'll ever see him hit. They were clearly the result of him losing a bit of confidence down the stretch.
My money is on Jason Day. Scoring conditions should be favorable today and he's playing so well that I could see him shooting 65 or 66.

You'd have to think that DJ has a run in him as well, and that playing with Jason Day, the two will feed off each other. DJ has had a quiet first three rounds, but he starts the day only three back.

Only two players are in red figures at present moment. The birdies have to show up sometime, don't they?

It's nice to see a crowd where everyone doesn't have their phone out taking pictures.

Cell phone use is prohibited by patrons on the course (typically the concessions areas are okay). I've heard that the Masters will blacklist patrons for breaking rules. And as impossibly difficult as it is to get tickets, nobody is about to test their patience.
When I was at the Ryder Cup in 2008, there were signs at the entrances that essentially said, "turn it off, put it away, and don't think about using it."

Also, four consecutive birdies by Jordan later, and the leaderboard is suddenly much less interesting. He's pretty damn good when he finds his game.

Wow, that was crazy. He's been fighting his swing the last 3 rounds, but his short irons were still on. I'm shocked he did it on 12.

A collapse unlike any other...
Greg Norman says, hi.
Biggest choke job in Masters history, even greater than Norman. Norman was up 6 going into the final round. Spieth was up 5 on the 10th tee.
You can't win the Masters when you can't hit a driver. 12 will be what we always remember, but it all came about because he couldn't hit a driver. His tee shots on 10 and 11 had to start getting in his head. He wasn't just missing a little. He was air mailing his tee shots.
There was something different about Jordan this year. He's always been a deliberate player, but he was standing over the ball a lot longer than he has in the past, and was stepping off way more than I ever remember. I know he was still up 5 with 9 left, but he never seemed as in control after Thursday.

And yet it's not over yet. Jordan has five feet for birdie on 16 and can get to one back with two to play.
the problem is that 17 and 18 are driving holes. He birdied 13 and 15 because they were par 5s. 16 a par 3. He has to hit perfect drives on 17 and 18, and I just don't see that happening.
Man, if Dustin Johnson could putt. He's just bad. I can't imagine there are many on TOUR worse than him.

The crazy thing about Spieth is that he has looked uncomfortable all week and still was one meltdown hole away from winning the tournament. And that's even with at least 3 other double bogeys. It still feels like he's got a ton of room to improve, which seems crazy to say about the best player in the world, but I think he's going to keep getting a lot better.

Yeah, that's the reaction I had. He had total meltdown on the last 2 holes yesterday and then what happened on 10-12 today, and still had a chance. This is the first year he's the man now in golf. He's going to have to learn how to be more in control of his emotions. He double bogeyed 17 on Sunday at the US Open last year in what was an ugly hole. He then birdied 18, but there are times when he looks way too tense. In those moments. he needs to turn doubles into bogeys. He's hit several choke shots in big situations. He's hit several great shots as well. All players tense up and hit bad shots in big situations. But his are beyond bad. They're choke shots. He can't do that if he wants to continue to win majors.

Yea I've noticed that too. He was never the fastest player or anything, but he's been brutally slow this week. Constantly backing off and weird little pre shot things. Idk what's going on there.

Jim Nantz is now entering his "Deep, Dark Period" when he is chronologically furthest from the next Masters. Stay strong, Jim. The Butler Cabin will still be there.
