No lineups yet, but I'll add them as they go live. In the meantime, I saw these images on Twitter and thought they were really cool, and would make for a good opening portion to the game thread.

Looks like they're trying Ohhhhh Bill-ay, Bill-ay, Bill-ay in the lead-off spot tonight.

Most every outfielder in baseball is scared of the wall, especially a brick one. He did alligator arm it. Ball was hit hard and didn't have time to find wall. He didn't fully jump or extend his arm fully. I wish he would've caught it and expect it caught but the factors involved make it non-routine.

Things snowball after a defensive player makes a horrible play like Bruce did to start the inning. Pitcher loses confidence in the guys behind him. Suddenly he's in the stretch instead of the windup ... Bruce is mostly to blame here IMO.

Alright, fair enough. Simon definitely stunk. But Bruce's poor D was the catalyst of that inning. Then he doubled down by not diving on the ball hit right in front of him. He's just a bad defensive RF (and I once foolishly thought he was a great defensive player). That blunder in the 2010 playoffs was the beginning of the end.

You think that Simon will be on the 2017-2018 Reds? Doubt he's in the big picture. Is it that big of a deal that this is who we see struggling?

The bullpen blew it the other night. I don't see any worthy members on the horizon. The Reds have a host of suspects. Zeroing in Simon misses the point.

Simon is a pitcher signed for $2MM in the middle of spring training, throwing an April night game in Chicago in the cold.

Nobody promised anything to anybody, these kinds of games will happen.
If Simon was coming off even an okay year last year, I'd cut him some more slack. But he was very bad last year. My fear, which I expressed on here, was that he would be very bad this year and throw up a sky-high ERA and earn his DFA not soon enough. The ERA is 9.53 after 2 starts.

This bullpen won't be your 2017-2018 bullpen either. Did you miss the entire first week? If you were watching, you would have seen plenty of pieces to a winning puzzle. A bad start from an inconsistent veteran means nothing.

Being stretched as a starter has nothing to do with not being able to get through a single inning.

Some pitchers have trouble getting loose in cold weather. Or if they don't have a full spring training.

But mostly, it's April. Look at Cody Reed today, all that concern on the board. His first outing after a long layoff.

Simon is a stop gap. He pitched ok the first time, he's not going to do well every time. Neither would most $2MM pitchers.

It's ok. In fact, it's irrelevant, if he doesn't work out they will use Melville or Josh Smith or somebody.

Depends on how far you want to go to define homegrown. The Cubs traded Samardzija, who was homegrown for Addisson Russell. Russell spent some time in the Cubs minor league system.

The have spent most of their money at least in free agency on pitching. I think Epstein correctly identified that offense is becoming more scarce and has pretty much focused on offense entirely throughout the draft.
