That means he'll end up going 2 for 4 with a single, double, and an RBI

I agree, but will point out Pacheco is on a little hot streak. 3 for 7 with two doubles since Thursday. But I would still prefer to see Schebler. I wonder if Price is trying to avoid shuffling Duvall between 3B and LF. (In other words, Bryanting him.)

Good point here on Duvall. Duvall has done nothing but hit since spring training began. The Reds may be trying to develop him as a LFer on the chance that he is a keeper.

Schebler is a lefty hitter, but he's below .600 OPS right now. No problem giving another game to Pacheco. Don't see Schebler as a necessity tonight.

Sorry, I forgot 33 plate appearances was the end all be all. Btw Schebler has hit the three hardest balls of any Reds hitter this season. Also, he's a corner outfielder, not a CFer. You have no basis to judge his defense. Blame Price for playing him out of position.

Not sure what or who you are talking about, nor do I have any idea what this means. Sorry, just don't get your point there.

But I will say that (a) Melville pitched pretty well his first game against the Pirates causing much enthusiasm around here (b) Straily is hardly a sure thing and it was reasonable to try him in the pen initially and (c) Straily was acquired on April 1, it's understandable that the Reds wanted to look him over for a couple of weeks before starting him.

Chuckie

Yeah, I don't know what you are talking about. You're trying to make sense of Melville getting not one but two starts at the MLB level (when Straily was available). That logic won't fly. Anyone who took the time to study Melville's career minor league stats knew he didn't belong on a MLB mound.

There comes a point with a rebuilding team when you see an opportunity to give a young pitcher/player a chance.

I think Jumbo's spot on the roster presents such an opportunity.

He's had his moments, but gives up these long balls.

Reds should be shining up Somsen for this spot. Jumbo hopefully can go to AAA and be ready if there's an emergency need for arms, which happens occasionally.

He was pitching on two days' rest, threw a bunch of pitches Friday night.

Not sure that it was a strict count, but after five innings there was brief discussion in the dugout and that was it.

Straily pitched tonight on short rest to give Simon and Iglesias an extra day off, for various reasons.

It is kind of a morbidly fun change of pace. Winning is fun and the best, but if we have to suck, might as well suck entertainingly.
