This series will be a nice test of this team. They have done well against poor teams, decent against good teams except the Cubs.

I can't seem to muster up even the faintest optimism with Jake Arrieta on the mound. He appears unhittable.

In that case I'm good with Schebler in CF.

Tom Servo
04-21-2016, 06:14 PM
So far, Price has favored Schebler when Hamilton is out over a more natural center fielder like Tyler Holt. Schebler played just over 400 innings there over his minor-league career.

“The thing about center field is it’s not just about covering the gaps, it’s being comfortable running in on a ball and either lay out or come up and be aggressive on a throw,” Price said. “To me, he’s looked very comfortable in center field. I’m happy with his progression and very comfortable with him starting a game in center.”

This dude also thought Brennan Boesch could play CF.

I don't mind seeing if Schebler can hold it down out there. He's got good foot speed, and I think he'll cover more ground than Choo at least.

This is why Hayes did not make the Reds after his good spring training.

He's had a full minor league career averaging almost five walks per game.

So he loads the bases, has to come in, and gives up the slam.

This is an unwritten rule in baseball that say's you don't break up a no hitter with an attempted bunt in the 9th, especially when that is not the tying run. Someone would get hit tomorrow.

This is an unwritten rule in baseball that say's you don't break up a no hitter with an attempted bunt in the 9th, especially when that is not the tying run. Someone would get hit tomorrow.

The Reds won't bunt, but hard to imagine the Cubs head hunting after winning 14-0 or whatever.

That's a war they don't want to start. They have so much to lose, little to gain.

Welcome to the Rebuild.

This game needs to serve as a wake-up call that the 8-8 record is a mirage. This club is historically awful, and is likely headed to at least a 95-loss season, if not 100 losses. Furthermore, I'm not convinced that the end is in sight.

I'm still not this negative. I don't mind getting our tails kicked by the Cardinals and Cubs, they were both nearly 100 win teams last year! It is what seems like a lack of effort and execution in these games that is getting to me. I mean that "I won't tolerate walks" talk from Price has really paid dividends, huh? I don't know who deserves the blame for it, but obviously the Cubs were prepared this time around for Finnegan and Finnegan wasn't for the Cubs.

This is as negative as I have ever been regarding the Reds. I honestly am losing all hope for the future, and I fully expect our young pitching to flop. Everyone keeps saying that we have all these young prospects, but I expect at least three-fourths of them to wash out, and if one or two actually pan out then they will quickly become too expensive to keep, and we will have to trade them away for more "prospects".

I can't really blame anyone for being negative after the last two years, but there are some genuine reasons to be optimistic. Our two top position player prospects (Peraza and Winker) are hitting well in AAA, our two top pitching prospects (Reed and Stephenson) are already in AAA and we saw one of those guys hold the Rockies down the other night. We have a five man rotation in AA of young kids playing "Can You Top This?" on a nightly basis. We have Homer Bailey hitting 97 mph on the gun in Louisville and DeSclafani makes a rehab start Saturday.

It can be a slog at times on the major league level, but we can't just blame the kids when guys like Votto and Mesoraco aren't contributing and Hoover and Cingrani and Simon are actively hurting the team.

I must admit. I can't recall a turnaround quite like we've seen Arrieta make.

3 1/2 seasons with Baltimore he was basically a AAAA-type of pitcher. 20-25, 5.46 era, 1.74 k/bb ratio, 1.472 WHIP. Then traded and sent to AAA with the Cubs.

We've seen what he's done since. My question is does anybody know what he did to turn it around? Did he change his motion? Add a new pitch? Start taking St. Louis supplements?

46 of those runs allowed have come against one team, kinda skews it a bit, no? I'm not gonna argue the Reds are GOOD, but getting blown out by the same team over and over doesn't exactly paint a whole picture.
