Hmm Duvall in RF, thought maybe he'd be in LF with Schebler in RF.

No big deal though

Duvall has been surprisingly good in the field.

Apparently he'd graded out so far as the best fielding LF. Presumably small sample size .

I thought he made a nice play at 1B late in the game yesterday also..
I believe his defense is better than advertised..

Interesting they're trying him in right. This gives them options in the future if Winker comes up and Bruce goes...

Tom Servo

Struck out Wright, but gave Conforto an ill-conceived belt high fastball. Gone. 1-0 Metropolitans.

OnBaseMachine
04-25-2016, 07:21 PM
Great tailing action on that fastball to K Wright.

Just as I was about to comment on how great Iglesias looks early, he falls behind in the count and grooves one to Conforto for a HR.

Tom Servo
04-25-2016, 07:23 PM
Lefties getting to Iglesias after those first two outs. Conforto's HR, now singles by Duda and Walker. Tapper by Asdrubal Cabrera ends the inning without further damage.

OnBaseMachine
04-25-2016, 07:24 PM
Another single on a 2-0 count. Reds pitchers should try a new strategy - working ahead in the count.

Just to defend Votto, the ball was ripped, he didn't really have time to move and get behind it. So he just threw the glove out there hoping the ball would find it.

Correctly called a base hit.

Carry on.

As pointed out in an article today, Billy's offensive numbers are showing some signs.

His walk rate is about 11 percent. Just my recall but in his last full game he hit a number of grounders, which is good.

Got to give him more rope, he's such a weapon on the bases and a great defender.

Then Thor needs to learn how to hold runners a little closer. His own broadcaster, Keith Hernandez (I hate Keith Hernandez!), said that today's pitchers would have no idea how to handle a team like the Cardinals from the 80's.

People on this site were calling it "abuse" when Finnegan threw the same amount of pitches in the same amount of innings against the Cubs in Wrigley.

Anybody else notice the trend of Price asking relievers to go two innings only for the pitcher to blow up in the second inning? I know somebody's gotta fill those innings, but maybe he should stop pushing his luck.

When they found out that adhering to strict pitch counts greatly reduced arm injuries.

I don't blame Ramirez. He pitched three scoreless last time. Now he's asked to go multiple innings again.

I understand the stress on this bullpen, the need for multiple innings. But if you keep asking Ramirez to go two to three innings, he's going to give up some runs.

True for most relievers.

He gave up a leadoff walk. That never ends well. He did just fine other than that and the bomb of course.

Had nothing to do with multiple innings. How often did people complain when Chapman was always limited to one inning?

Tom Servo
04-25-2016, 10:09 PM
Should be noted too that as easy as it is to blame the bullpen, Iglesias didn't exactly do his job tonight. The pitching all around has to get better. I think it will, but it's a rebuild and there will be growing pains.

Bruh there's a bit of a difference between asking a guy with a 6.04 ERA in the majors to go more than one inning and asking Aroldis Chapman to go more than one inning.

I lost all faith in him last week when that fellow bergman struck him out on an 89 mph fast ball down the pipe with the winning run on third and nobody out.

Not really. At least not according to the statement I quoted. The point is it had nothing to do with multiple innings. It had everything to do with a leadoff walk and an ill timed meatball.

I agree, relievers should go multiple innings, particularly your best ones. And just based on pure stuff, Ramirez is probably the best we have.

It was a good game against the losing World series team. Against one of the best pitchers right now in baseball. This team did great, some great at bats, and some great hits when we needed it.

But the Mets announcers want Bruce as far away from this series as they can get.
