Heading to the ballpark after work, hopefully the Reds and/or I have plenty of chances to boo Bryan Price.

Serious question here...how many runs would the Reds need as a lead before you felt confident/comfortable turning it over to the bullpen at the start of the 7th?

For me, a 5 run lead is the minimum, which is absolutely absurd.

Chuckie
04-27-2016, 07:32 PM
Schebler. Doh!

Moscot is going to give up a lot of runs tonight.

Chuckie
04-27-2016, 07:34 PM
Wha happened?

Schebler dropped a fly ball with 2 outs. Should have been 1-0 Reds going to the second. Instead, it's 2-1 Mets and the inning isn't even over. Schebler is terrible. Offensively and defensively.

Tom Servo
04-27-2016, 07:35 PM
Wha happened?hard struck ball by Duda to LF with two out, Schebler on the run, twisting around, gets his glove up...and it clanks right off it.

Chuckie

hard struck ball by Duda to LF with two out, Schebler on the run, twisting around, gets his glove up...and it clanks right off it.

It's a play an average high school outfielder would have made. Let's not make it out to be some tough play.

And if Schebler could catch a fly ball, the pitch count wouldn't be racking up like this. Still no earned runs tonight from him.

I figured the Reds would be bad this year; I picked them to finish 62-100. I never thought the fielding would be this bad. We were spoiled by great "D" the last few years, but BP has DEFINITELY lost a step, and Schebler has been atrocious. Suarez is no Frazier at 3B so far. Bruce has made a couple of bad reads/misplays. And Mes has been a Mess behind the plate. I never would have expected this level of defensive ineptitude.

I'm hoping Peraza is the SS of the future. If Peraza isn't cutting it at SS around the end of June I would be more inclined to at least pay Cozart for 2017 but I'd be surprised if he isn't moved.

Unrelated note, I'm glad that it took all of 50 at bats and 20 games to decide that Schebler is an awful baseball player. Personally I would send him down, I think he would benefit from playing every day. The idea though that he's complete crap is laughable.

I'm hoping he is as well. But from what I've heard, he's more suited for 2b. I'm sure there are others who have seen him a ton more than I have (just a handful of games), but unless the guy can absolutely rake...I want an excellent defender at short first and foremost. And from what I've seen/heard...that ain't Peraza.

If the game ends in this 5-2 score, the Reds will be 4-12 in their last 16 games. During that span they will have scored 54 runs and allowed 113. Pythag says that should merit them a 3-13 record. So, take solace in the fact that even while getting it handed to them on nearly a nightly basis, they are, in fact, overachieving.

Toward the end of spring training Neil Cotts, Phil Coke, Wesley Wright, Manny Parra, Sammy Freeman, Jason Aquina, Randy Choate, and Joe Thatcher all were available. The Reds didn't figure they needed another lefty in the pen with Tony Cingrani in good standing. Funny thing is there isn't a single lefty at AAA who is a reliever. Now Lamb may turn into one but I don't know if he has a relievers arm. But since winning isn't important to management who cares any way right?

Certainly coming around to it, but the BOR bar is so low that you always hope a fringey guy with a solid mix of pitches can put it together. Obviously the current version of Moscot who walks more guys than he strikes out isn't worth much.

Hopefully with Disco, Homer, and Lamb returning, Moscot can go to AAA and be forgotten for the time being until he shows something more.

Of course I'd rather see him over Simon or Melville, but Moscot is only effective if he throws strikes and hits his spots. He did it against the Cardinals, but he walked twice as many batters as he struck out against the Cubs and the Mets. Nothing worth bragging about even if he was able to wiggle away from the truly destructive innings.
