Not a good forecast for tonight but I am sure they will try to get this in as is the only Mariners trip in this year:

Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low around 57. Northeast wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Right now, given the forecast, it's looking like a triple header on Sunday.

I still find it odd to see a Mariner lineup without Griffey, Buhner, or Ichiro in it.

Oh my god. That was THE WORST send ever by Hatcher, and it somehow worked.

From the relay in...that was one terrible terrible baseball play. Votto was out by 30 feet but catcher picked up he and Hatcher by somewhat rushing a catch and tag.

Dan Straily just went Papelbom on Blake Wood. Ok that is a lie, but in the teletype reenactment of the game in my imagination, that is what happened

I'm having a hard time envisioning a Reds starting pitcher even getting mildly surprised at a blown lead. At this point I'd assume they expect it every time.

Given up on the "he's finally adjusting to the bullpen" idea, huh?

Not that I'm one to talk, I thought he was finally going to live up to his potential this year and grab the closer role.

I'm ready to move on. If the Reds need a LOOGY, I think Tony can fill that role. Lifetime, better against lefties.

But with all the walks, fly ball pitcher, not top flight velocity, if I were GM I'd try to include him in a deal.

I know the clubhouse culture stuff is pointless to speculate on, but wouldn't you think that at some point it'd be awkward in the clubhouse to be a Reds reliever?

Like almost everyone else is shooting within view of par or better, but the bullpen guys? Man they're lying 7 by a pond beside the tee box or something.

Exactly. Bruce played that poorly, and should have made the catch. But that was entirely too hittable of a pitch from Ramirez on an 0-2 count. You can't give up a hit that well-struck on an 0-2 pitch!

But most of these guys have had some success, some as recently as last year. Obviously it was a poorly assembled group, but basic laws of average saw they shouldn't all be this bad. It's like investing in 7-8 low level stocks and having every single one's value plummet.

Those guys were 11th or 12th man types in a real pen. Maybe you can hide them in a blowout or have them face the bottom of the order. But these guys are all the Reds have, so they're out there everyday. And six innings is a marathon for the starters, so you're looking at a ton of exposure.

Hey I ain't defending them, or anybody really. Just trying to wrap my head around this.

I was one of Hoover's biggest detractors, but even I didn't think he'd blow up in spectacular fashion in the first 3 weeks of the season. Thought he could get by for at least a little before the dropping K/9 and traditionally high BB/9 and HR/9 got him. I knew Jumbo had a major HR/9 problem, not really surprised by any of that. But Cingrani and Ohlendorf are relatively experienced and not horrible. Cotham and Wood pitched well in AAA last year. Somsen was pitching pretty well in the minors. You'd think ONE guy could be useable. But they're all just indescribably bad. It's insane!

The only good thing about this is that the President of Baseballl Operations and the GM must understand that fans/beat writers/other teams see the bullpen as a joke.

So maybe they will emphasize the bullpen more in the rebuild. As I've said, I think this front office has gone overboard allocating good prospect arms to the rotation.

Nobody agrees, nobody wants to hear it, but it is true.

I'm not watching these days. I sometimes follow along here, but tonight I went to dinner and took a nap. Time well spent, I think. Dropped in with the score 5-3, hung in there until Jumbo came in and it was batting practice. Nothing from the pitching staff that is historically bad. It's time to do something, anything. Refused to watch Price, but did catch the last part where he said he wanted to see some change in the pitching. Poor guy looked like he was on the verge of tears. I imagine he is waiting not so patiently for the call that he is fired. No one wants to go through the rest of this season with its ragamuffin collection of what many called prospects (really suspects who have become no keepers) and vets who just don't have it. I've often said in these pages that if I lived in Cincinnati, I'd have season tickets. I wouldn't take them for free this year. And probably for several years unfortunately.
