The Portland Timbers hosted San Jose today and shut them out 2-0 (after shutting them out 1-0 with 10 men exactly two weeks earlier before the break). Perhaps the Defense is finally shaping up as it's very difficult to shut out the same team in consecutive games.

All of the MLS teams played Tuesday or will play Wednesday.

Salt Lake got pushed to the limit by Wilmington before winning on penalties. Lower league sides put up some good fights but in the end didn't win yesterday. Starting to look like the late rounds will be an all MLS affair this year. Tampa Bay has a decent shot at Columbus tonight, though.

Or not. Columbus took care of business and beat Tampa soundly, 4-0.

I have to admit I was rather surprised by that. Tampa may be paper tigers in the end.

Indy Eleven lost a brutal 1-1 draw on penalty kicks last night. Broke open a scoreless draw in the 105th minute, lost the lead 6 minutes later.

Went up 2-0 in penalties but lost 4-3.
Tough spot given the effort they'd put forth to win the NASL spring title only 4 days before but an impressive effort against an admittedly substandard MLS side.

A local kid who reffed some of my daughter's rec games back in the day just scored to put the Revolution through to the next round. Very cool way to score your first goal for the senior team.
