Suarez probably needs a break after the golden sombrero.

After double checking to see if golden sombrero was the right term for 4 K's, I ended up stumbling upon this fun trivia bit in the same Wiki article, regarding a friend of ours from this season:

Steve Delabar struck out 4 men in the 10th inning, and recorded the win in a 3-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox on August 13, 2012, making him the first pitcher in major league history to record four strikeouts in an extra inning.

Seriously dunno how I blanked on Valdez, his futility knew no bounds. Plus he beat us the season before joining us in the 16 inning game in Philly where he pitched and blanked the heart of the lineup.

Between Reteria, Izturis, and Cabrera, the Reds sure were cornering the market on past their prime SS's who had their heyday in the early 00s for a quite a while there

I had Rosales earlier. Forgot all about Cabrera and Valaika, Was trying to remember Elmore's name. I have no recollection of Ramon Santiago. I think I spent that year obsessing over Votto's injury and dreaming on he, Frazier and Mesoraco all being healthy in the same line-up. It never happened.

Oh man I remember Jolbert Cabrera! He was a long time journeyman, I remember the Reds giving him a cup of coffee after he was an organizational filler guy for quite a while.

Totally forgot about Drew Sutton - was he the IF the Reds traded to...either the Twins or Rays and had like a good partial season with the bat and people got pissed "the Reds let him go"?

Totally forgot Rosales was a SS.
Even though it was his position in the minors. I still just remember him as a 3B/1B guy who sprinted on walks and HRs like a total dweeb.

Valaika was even a "prospect" for a while, at least, he ranked highly in the Reds crappy system a few times.

I have NO IDEA who Elmore is, unless he was the dude that a bunch of us wanted the Reds to pick up a couple years ago from someone else's system a year or two ago and give a chance (maybe the A's?), in which case, I think I might actually remember exactly who he is, lmao.

Yeah, Sutton was a Brave/Astro/Ray I think and people complained when he had some small sample size success elsewhere.

IIRC, Elmore was picked up with just days left in the 2014 season and earned some starts long after people stopped caring.

I remember Machado having a couple good months with the bat at like the end of 04 I think and believing he might turn the corner and be the Reds next starting SS.

I was convinced FeLo was still going to be the Reds' SS to this day at the time, after that, lmao. The power/speed/average combo at SS was impressive to me. The arm, not so much!

I thought Hairston was better than he was too and deserved to start, though to be fair, I do seem to recall him having a decent half year with the bat as a Red before they traded him off.

I believed Kepp was a passable SS, which may be the most lol-worthy.

Looking at the Box Score from July 19, 2015. It looks like Skippy came in late at 2B with Phillips moving to SS and Suarez moving to 3B. Dejesus started at 3B and was removed for a double switch when Villareal came in and coughed up the game. Frazier had PH earlier in the game and all the folks who now say he sucks will be happy to learn that he K'd in his only PA. ;)

It is great to see as you say he is a good guy. He was not good the past 2 years. I know injuries have been used to blame his performance on but I feel like we don't know the whole story and are just speculating. (Of course he got hurt...but costing him 2 years?) I'm not suggesting anything diabolical just that only Jay knows why he struggled the past 2 years. (It could have just been a mechanical hitch I don't know).

Just my humble opinion but I think it was his knee..
I think he came back from the injury too soon and in rushing himself back he made the knee worse.
You need your legs to hit and his knee made that tough to do.

Well they just pulled middling comedian Nick Kroll I'm pretty sure.

Hey man he has a hit (off) Broadway show

Brandon flies out Kronos Gyros to right.

Barves manager I guess believes he is Bobby Cox, yet another GD pitching change. :|

Why do the Reds have an official bourbon?

Yeah I pass easily on that. There's no chance anyone will give him 5 years after the option IMO. Maybe if he's traded a team will give him 4 more after the option if they're the Mets or something.

But Jay Bruce isn't going to get a new 5 year contract that doesn't begin for another year and a half, as ecstatic as I am about his season so far.

I'm not against trading Jay, just against trading him to dump the contract. I could understand extending him but not longer than 3 years...and it would have to be decently affordable.

BTW, I just now noticed your avatar. I totally overlooked the face on Mr. Red. LOL.

You don't think anybody will? I guarantee someone will if he keeps this up. And a 5 year deal would take him to what? 36 years old? Everybody is constantly lamenting the state of the farm when it comes to hitters. Bruce is making it a tough decision for the Reds on the trade or extend question.

...I did not know that.

My apologies to Mr. Kroll!

Have you actually watched them play?

6 extra years is a heavy proposition.

I would pick up the option, give him 3 more years, and then maybe an mutual option at the end of that with a good size buyout, as sort of a signing bonus/add on some guaranteed dollars. But I wouldn't really be comfortable going farther than that.

I don't think there will be that many contracts for players into their late 30s like we've seen as often before.

Counterpoint: The Reds should have an official every variety of liquor that possibly exists out there.

Can't wait to get my hands on the official absinthe of the Cincinnati Reds. :alcohol:

I think you're right. I wouldn't either. I'm just saying that's what I think Bruce will demand, and if he keeps hitting, someone will give it to him.

Would much rather have this Bruce and sacrifice the defense than the other Bruce with a Gold Glove.

Far more value. C'mon, Walt. Get a deal done.

I'd rather have him be good at both, that's even BETTER value.

I've not really given much thought one way or the other to the idea of an extension to Bruce, but it seems to me that Jay might be the type of player who would give the club a hometown discount. I think he wants to play his entire career in Cincinnati if possible.

Why is Cincinnati considered a Northern City is the sibling question to that query

I agree. Jay has said as much that he wants to be a career Red. We'll see if he's serious about it if he's still here in the offseason.
