I'm heading to the game tonight. The first game I've been to in two years. Having kids aged 2 years and 4 months and living 3 hours away has slowed my attendance down. I'm excited to see this lineup. I'm not excited about the Cubs fans. I'm going with two coworkers, one a Reds fan, one a Cubs fan.

In 2 fewer games, Cubs batters have 125 more walks than the #Reds.

Reds pitchers have allowed 106 more BB than Cubs pitchers too.

Joel Luckhaupt ‏@jluckhaupt 6h6 hours ago

#Reds & Cubs have played 7 times this season. Just one game has been with in 7 runs (5-3 Cubs comeback on 4/11). Reds only win was 13-5.

Joel Luckhaupt ‏@jluckhaupt 6h6 hours ago

Cubs have lost 5 of their last 6. Reds have only lost 4 of their last 6. I think we know who the better team is.

The most annoying thing is that the Cubs didn't even have to deal with the inevitable regression from Fowler, he just gets injured and they plug in someone else to be a hitting machine.

When batter after batter makes consistent hard contact against a pitcher, that's a HUGE red flag that the pitcher doesn't have it and needs to be pulled. Price's decision to leave him in.

It's not a very persuasive argument unless you address the obvious issue. If you're Price, do you use almost the whole bullpen in this game. If you relieve Straily after 3, with this bullpen, you have to expect four more pitchers, maybe five will have to be used.

It did take some of them time to get going.

Lorenzen has better stuff than the results would indicate. Not sure what the problem is. He's just now relieving so there's an adjustment.

But even as a starter, same type of thing. Maybe he needs to mix in more secondary pitches, they are all over his fastball.

I tuned into the game late but if I'm reading the box score right, did Jake Arrieta seriously homer off of Lorenzen?

Well if that doesn't prove to him that you can't just heave fastballs right down the middle, nothing will.

The biggest problem with this team is the damn veterans. Simon, Ohlendorf, and Diaz have no business being employed by a A ball team let alone and major league team. Get these POS the puck out of Cincinnati.

I know my comment earlier about Price didn't go over, but I posted this this morning (http://www.redszone.com/forums/showthread.php?111811-Deadline-Trade-Discussion-Thread&p=3497465&viewfull=1#post3497465) before tonight's game:

Nobody on this team is untouchable. I am curious what the market for Desclafani will be by the end of July. I doubt he brings a Cueto-like haul, and if that's the case he has more value for the Reds by staying with the team. But it's probably worth exploring.

I like Duvall and wouldn't mind keeping him but he's really due for some regression. Straily is already started on his own regression and I'd try to unload him as soon as possible.

If it's that obvious to me, it should have been glaringly clear to Price and Riggins. But it certainly appeared that he wasn't prepared to deal with that eventuality.

I agree, but leaving in a veteran pitcher too long is pretty low on my list of offenses committed by Price.

Baseball Reference says no one dating back to 1913 has had 2 2B, 3 HR in a game.

Congrats, Tucker Barnhart and Reds Pitching Staff! :beerme:

Really? Joe Maddon showing everyone that he's smarter than everyone else by making a pitching change with a three-run lead with two outs in the ninth inning and bases empty.

I loathe this guy with a LaRussaesque fervor.

Last season was the first time I had observed Maddon very much. He does give off smarminess and arrogancy that he is better than you. Very much like LaRussa.
