Finnegan seems to do this a lot, walking the first batter on pitches nowhere close with minimum velocity. Not getting a good enough warmup in the pen?

Finnegan already missing up and away to RH hitters. It's gotta be a mechanical flaw.

That one only 89 to Werth. Is Finnegan okay?

Tom Servo
06-30-2016, 07:22 PM
Duvall looked so confident there at the wall...and misjudged it. Would have been a tough catch either way. 2nd and 3rd with no outs.

Finnegan did a good job against Murphy when he faced him earlier this year. Does it here again too, pitches him inside and gets him to popup.

Dusty stacked the lineup full of righties tonight against Finnegan and it's worked. Finnegan has actually been better against righties this year than lefties. But you wouldn't know it from that inning.

Something I wonder about Finnegan is whether he can pitch every 5th day with his best stuff. Last time out, he had an extra day of rest of his stuff looked good. Today he's pitching on regular rest and looks...like this.

If he was pitching out of the pen tonight this still would have happened. He doesn't have his stuff.

Cody Reed gets bombed and most everyone is still in love with him being the cornerstone of the rotation for years to come. Finnegan gets bombed for the first time in a while and we're ready to banish him to our bullpen. This place justvwon't ne happy until he's there.

Probably.

Seems like Randy Johnson did IIRC. Maybe Shaun Estes too. Travis Wood definitely does.

Seems like you see a lot of LHP"s that way, though it's very rare for a left-handed position player to bat righty.

RHP's hitting lefty are a little more uncommon.

That's seven straight home losses for #STLCards, who are now 15-23 at Busch. Last year they didn't lose their 23rd home game until Sept. 7.

This gives me some satisfaction

So did Price mess up the double switch? (Or will we blame Dusty for that?)

Much as I want to jump on Price, even with all my years of watching baseball, I only have the most basic of conceptual grasps on the double switch.

All those throw/threw LEFT and and bat/batted RH....not toss RH and bat LH, as does Belisle, Votto, Harper, etc.Ah that's right. D'oh!

This is what I get for posting at work.

Tonight you do...and I liked Smith yesterday

No I've always liked Lorenzen and I've liked Smith this year coming out of the pen. One game won't change my mind.

On pace for 59-103.

(Actually no change from yesterday.)

Hope the rest of the road trip goes better than this.
I don't know how many games like this I could stand one right after another. ;)

With a four-man bench and an eight-man bullpen becoming the norm, it's a strategy that is used less often than it used to be.

If they used Tom Tango's game-scoring method for pitchers, Brandon Finnegan would have received a game score of zero tonight. Z-E-R-O. That seems about right.

I predicted a 2-8 road trip yesterday.

I predicted a 2-8 road trip yesterday.

I remember you saying that..
Personally I wouldn't mind a few close games scattered in there somewhere

Price in the postgame press conference:

"The combination of walks and homers doesn't work very well."

That may be the most profound thing I've ever heard.

The reporter should have replied, "Ya Think"...or something else that fits, but this is a family board.

That may be the most profound thing I've ever heard.I'm sorry, but this is Dave Miley2. Or Bob Boone2, or Jerry Narron2. Sure they traded away the pitching (which they should have noticed earlier)l but putting this product on the field is criminal.
when there was a good team for him to manage, he blew so many one-run games. Now everyone is so supportive because it's a lousy team. Many like him because he's not Dusty, but he's horrible. NNO, the record will be terrible regardless, but this guy is just not manager material. Out with him.

This version of the Little-Red-Team-That-Couldn't would have to win their next 68 games to match the record of the 1975 Big Red Machine. That team did not lose their 51st game until September 13th. They stood 97-51 at the time.

That statement should come under the heading of "No kidding Sherlock!". This pitching staff is just horrible. The young guys that had some success for a while are now fading and old guys are just still awful.

I heard Marty say in the first inning the the Washington crowd is very similar to the Dodgers crowd in L.A.--late-arriving and early to leave.

Not quite as bad as LA but that statement is basically true. They will pack them in the rest of the weekend. The 4th weekend is always a big draw for the Nats.

Nats score 13 runs and rest two of their regulars. Their big gun in Harper and Revere. How pathetic is that?
