Looks like they were trying to find a way to give him a day off.

I don't disagree with the idea (Price probably knows he is going to make the all-star team and not get a break there) but as a Reds fan he's one of the few good things to watch.

The manager in me though says that if Votto had to sit out yesterday with a sore shoulder then IMO Votto may benefit more from the day off today more than Duvall.

Go Reds, score 20.

Hopefully that's enough.

Yeah, 5 days off in that span (no games scheduled) and 3 of those were 1-3 innings later in the game

In that span of 59 consecutive games played he hit 20 HR (lead all of MLB), 54 RBI (2nd in MLB) and .905 OPS

I smell a PH 3 run HR

Tom Servo

Lamb walked Wilson Ramos to start the 4th. Seemed perhaps somewhat intentional given the HR he hit earlier. But then he walked Ryan Zimmerman on 4 pitches. Not good.

Uh no. Glad to know after three starts you know that he won't be any good for 5 years. If you want guys who produce on Day 1, they are likely mediocre role players. Prospects are not always major league ready immediately. What you would have done, CincyDave, resigned Cueto to a massive contract extension and then turned around and start bashing him for making so much money?

You are a jamoke because you're trolling under the guise of "truth telling", and bashing people here for being Reds fans. You weren't even telling the truth either, Finnegan's ERA isn't 4.5+, it's just under that, and of course it was in the 3.00s before that disaster outing last time out.

IMO, Lamb is trying to be too cute with the 60 MPH pitches and and other stuff he does out there. He may make a guy look foolish once in a while, but it's something he should pull out once every three or four games, not as a part of his regular pitch assortment. They got a 2014 first-rounder who has skipped the minors almost entirely and is now in the Reds rotation. Reed flat out dominated in 2015 for three different teams (Royals A+, Royals AA, Reds AA teams) and pitched very well in Louisville this year. Both of them are just 23. Lamb was a wild card. He showed some good stuff last year. This year not so much. Far as I'm concerned, he was always a throw-in.

You're bashing Reed for three major league starts, you have no credible argument.

Well, on the plus side, thanks to Votto's ABs today and Peraza's AB in the first, Strasburg is already at 90+ pitches through 6 AND coming off injury, so it doesn't seem too likely Dusty lets him stay in to complete the no-hitter.

Aaron Harang would like a word with you...

We could sign him and he could pitch the 8th

Maybe someone brought this up, I haven't look at all, but I liked when he said "did you just say Sammette?"

I enjoy most of his routine when they go off-topic but I see why many don't. This game sucks, at least he's trying.

But I'm not sure I've heard any announcer/analyst/pitching coach speak about pitching and I agree with them more than I do with Brantley.

I know it when I see it. Didn't see it in previous post.

Not enough pep in your step?

OK, that's a start. [Slight chuckle]

You stated the Cueto trade was bad after barely a year. I sure hope the Reds give up on Reed too just like the Astros gave up on Curt Shilling after a year or 2 after that Davis deal with the Orioles.

Giving up early, once in a blue moon, backfires (see also: Arrieta). Usually it is the right call. But no, there's no point in giving up on any of the three, after all, what's the risk? what's the alternative?

Strasburg done at 109 pitches. We may (probably will) still get no hit, but it won't be a "no-hitter" in the traditional sense.

So we got that going for us, which is nice.

At some point you've got to try something else or admit that you just don't have options.I think everyone knows they don't have options, including the Reds. Have they been trying to hide that? I mean, honestly, what are they going to do about this right now?

I was ticked about it at one point, early in the season, but I've moved on to acceptance. My current perspective is that the only thing worse than the Reds sucking is that it could be 1994 and a great team gets screwed by a strike and there is no baseball to watch in the summer, which also happened to forever change the economics of the game that left the Reds on the outside looking in.

Another day of cleanup from the flood, so I stop by to see the score. Listed to Marty and he is correct on one thing. The poor roster management is old and has been going on for ages. Whoever thought that knowing Leake and Cueto were leaving and didn't consider some pitching acquisitions that were solid instead of trading for prospects was foolhardy. Bad contracts and not looking toward the future has resulted in this embarrassment on the field which will hurt more than losing ball games. We are in the second lost decade.
