Happy 4th everyone.

If the Reds can manage to not run into each other 3 batters into the game for an inside-the-park three-run HR, I'd consider today a success.

They resemble the Louisville Bats uni's this year, which is pretty fitting. ;)

The call-up timing on Reed struck me as odd, because he dominated his first 7 AAA starts but then had a 4.88 ERA (two grand slams did the damage) in his last 4 starts before getting called up.

I just feel bad because these games will skew Reds fans attitudes towards the kid. There is a whole lot to like about his stuff, he won't be a HR derby pitcher moving forward.

If I were GM, I'd be looking to add Suarez to a deal. Maybe not now, but after a hot streak at the plate. When his value is higher.

I dislike high error defenders. Even if they have the range, the arm, the bat, whatever, I wouldn't accept it. Cozart, even without top range, he's my type of defender.

Hopefully Senzel will move quickly to replace Suarez at third.

Wish him good luck, but if I were GM he'd be moved.

I saw Larkin play from his first game. He had an inconsistent year in 1988 where his throws were a problem more than anything else. He was never this bad in 1986 or 1987. Suarez is NO Barry Larkin even if you went back to ST in 1988 and compared the two in hitting and fielding.
I am not advocating trading him this year or this off season but he looks like fools gold right now.

I think Suarez is a bench player who should be able to get starts at 5 or 6 spots. Play Peraza at 2B. Hand Phillips a 3B glove and see if he can be a stopgap until Senzel arrives (about when Phillips deal runs out) and start getting Suarez some OF experience in practice and in some games. If they need to remove Tyler Holt to clear a little PT out there, fine and dandy. They can remove Dejesus as well. Suarez can back-up 2B, SS, 3B, LF, RF. Peraza can move to CF with Suarez playing in the IF. He can play LF with Duvall at 1B. With a little creativity, Suarez could provide a decent option as a back-up at every spot but pitcher and catcher. Good teams need guys like that. He can still get 2 or 3 starts per week at 3B while we wait for Senzel. Phillips gets the others.

I'm waiting for RTG's update to let us know that for sure.

I read somewhere that all the position players that have pitched this year have a lower ERA than the Reds pitching staff.

Gomes had a 3 HR game too, right? I know Heisey did, and Votto as well. I remember watching Votto's in 2012 and thinking "Man, nothing can stop this dude." That was B.K.I. (before knee injury).

He's only had one top 3 MVP vote year since.

Sad face.

Hey I'm not complaining! Just noting that I was really feeling my oats at that point that Votto was both indestructible and unstoppable.

Heisey did it in Yankee Stadium didn't he? Probably sat the next 4 days while Stubbs went 1/18

I missed it...Who said that?

Rizzo, after the third base umpire rung him up on a check-swing appeal.

Bryan Price said the team has no interest in sending Reed down. Said he's better than Triple-A and needs to learn up here.

This strikes me as...dumb.

They could send him down now, and still have him back up by the first game after the All-Star Break.

This strikes me as...dumb.Strikes me as unbelievable. And to think so many want this guy to continue as the manager. As I've said before, what a dolt.

He's going to lose all confidence too. This organization just unbelievably bad. I have lost all confidence from ownership all the way down. I really don't know when we will if ever see a good and competitve team on the field again.
