I've been saying Lamb to the bullpen since last season. When he has to get 21 outs (assuming 7 innings) he generally gets burned somewhere along the way.

He's an example of someone who would need work to become a reliever but I think it would be a worthwhile project.

The Reds will soon have to begin to exercise judgment as to which of these starters are worth the effort in that role. Thankfully they will run out of starting spots, which will force them to trade some guys or move some to the pen.

I've come around on the one time through the order thing, but his first hitter woes may mean he can't relieve either.

Last year Lamb allowed 1.45 homers per nine. This year it's worse, 1.59 coming into tonight.

Unless he fixes that problem, there is no role for him.

I'd pull him out of the rotation (I would have awhile ago) and have him work with, say, Ted Power on relief pitching. Streamline the pitch arsenal, focus on two best pitches, shorter stints.

See what happens.

I do not see the point with some of these guys. I'd rather see Simon give up 12 runs per game than have a prospect used in the wrong role over and over. Try something new with Lamb.

Just seems highly unlikely after inking AlfRod for $7M, and with Dick Williams saying on the record (which surprised me) that Peraza would play SS if the Reds trade Cozart. It's not surprising Peraza would play SS in that situation, it was just odd that Dick was so candid about it. I'm used to Walt, who says next to nothing of substance to the media. 1. The future shortstop is Rodriguez who won't be ready for awhile. Peraza isn't really a starting shortstop.

3. Jeff says that Zack is a good mentor, I wasn't aware of that.

LOL, the guys in the booth shouldn't be questioning effort unless they nave some strong basis for it.

Sure, there have been some lapses, but can you imagine a veteran trying to get through this season with this club?

I think the Reds have given a high degree of effort when you consider that this is a tryout camp more than a baseball team.

I loved that jacket when Chris wore it that night. Looked like he stole it from Doc Severinsen's closet.

Enjoying the talk from Day and Brantley about the pitchers in the minors, don't think you'd get that from Thom, for instance.

Jim Day knows that he isn't an expert, so he doesn't try to talk about things he doesn't know. He's also a fan, so he asks questions of Brantley (or Welsh, when working with him) that fans want to ask.

Sampson with an excellent outing. Four innings of three-hit shutout relief.

Milwaukee Packers?

Pack played 2-4 home games per year in Milwaukee through 1994. At that time Milwaukee ticket holders were offered tickets at Lambeau to one pre-season game and games 2 and 5 of the regular season schedule and of course most accepted. So for two of their home games, many of the fans at Lambeau are from Milwaukee.

Dick will say what's on his mind, to a degree.

That's interesting.. When did Williams say this?
All I've heard is the same ol song and dance routine from Walt..

I was listening to the Brennaman and Jones on Baseball show the other day and Jones ask Marty who the Reds 1st round draft pick was..

Marty said "I have no idea, I don't pay any attention to that stuff.
Jones then ask if he follows the NFL or NBA Draft?
Marty said yes I follow the NBA Draft because I love college basketball.

You would think he would know or remember who the Reds drafted #1 just a few weeks ago.

Duvall busts it down the line pretty hard. Beats the throw on the attempted DP for an RBI fielder's choice.

Nieuwenhuis must have thought Ramon Cabrera was his dad.

(For those of you who don't know, Ramon's father, Alex Cabrera, twice hit 50+ homers in a season in Japan, including one season with 55.)

Pros:

Votto gets four hits
Bullpen throws 7 scoreless innings
I mentioned Thom Brennaman earlier and it reminded me of his infamous "I gotta tackle my kid IN the shower!" comment.

Cons:

The game sucked.

#Brewers Jonathan Lucroy always honest. Said he didn’t foul tip pitch before HR but bat did strike plate to make noise that fooled ump.

If he was always honest though wouldn't he have walked back to the dugout?

Because the umpire didn't call him out.

Not unless the ump asked him.
