I won't stay up until 1am watching these west coast games, and thus not feel like poop at work in the morning.

I saw that FSO was showing Game 2 of the 1976 World Series tonight. I have the boxed set version of the 1975 World Series on DVD, and this looks like the same format. Does anyone know if the '76 Series is also available as a boxed set? I would be interested in purchasing it if it is now available for sale.

However, all 4 games are available in their entirety on YouTube

It is....and if Cozart missing one, catcher interfering for another freebee, Duvall missing a pop fly for yet another freebee...if we had the ability to go back in time and those players make those plays...which all 3 literally always do. I'd bet he wouldn't have given up a HR...now don't get me wrong. The HR is completely a result of Reed's loss of focus/slash terrible pitch.

I defend the Reds when they do things I understand, even if I don't completely agree. This Reed situation, like Peraza, is one I don't understand.

Reed's first 7 starts in AAA: 40.2 innings, 33 hits, 40 strikeouts, 9 walks, 2 HR, 2.21 ERA

Reed's last 4 starts in AAA: 24 innings, 26 hits, 23 strikeouts, 8 walks, 4 HRs, 4.88 ERA

So they waited until teams got a chance to get another look at him, make adjustments, hit him better...and then called him up. Makes as much sense as calling up Peraza and having him sit his ass on the bench every day.

I know you are a strong proponent of pitchers coming up and taking their licks, but there are certain thresholds for me. I think minor league development matters, and so does major league service time for that matter. Reed started last year in A+ ball, and doesn't even have a full seasons worth of starts in the AA-AAA level combined.

For me it's not even so much that the Reds called him up too soon, that happens, it's that so far they are stubbornly refusing to admit it.

Haven't watched too much tonight. But Reed is a slider first pitcher and the slider isn't deceiving anyone.

If you're going to lead with your breaking pitch, in the majors, it had better be devestating.

That's why I think Stephenson has a better chance, he's the classic pitcher who leads with the fastball, as I understand, who uses his secondary stuff to keep hitters honest.

I keep hearing people say this but I don't understand it. Why have a Triple-A then? I think there is plenty to gain from making more than just 11 starts at the AAA level. You get to see the same hitters again like you will in the big leagues. The hitters have more patience, they punish more mistake pitches, and you have to repeat your mechanics every time out.

If you haven't watched him in the minors or know the scouting reports or his history, which I know is the case with you, yes, I understand he's looked bad. Ridiculously bad given the HR/9 rate. But I guarantee you he won't continue to be this bad over a larger period of time. He's got too much talent.

Reed has been hurt a lot by the defense tonight. He's making hitters get themselves out but the fielders have to catch the ball. And they aren't. It's not as bad as it looks, imo.

AAA is for fringe players or for guys who are blocked to get reps. The Reds staff has been largely crap all year. Reed is their top prospect who's been dominating the minor leagues for a year and a half. He should be with the big club, learning on the job during a season where his results don't really matter much. Whether or not he's successful is something time will answer, but the big leagues is where he should be IMO.

If you haven't watched him in the minors or know the scouting reports or his history, which I know is the case with you, yes, I understand he's looked bad. Ridiculously bad given the HR/9 rate. But I guarantee you he won't continue to be this bad over a larger period of time. He's got too much talent.

He's just throwing fastballs over the middle is the problem.

Yes, I will admit that I don't follow the minors closely, and seldom if ever look at minor-league scouting reports. I do occasionally look at minor league stats to see how players are performing.

And yes, he has looked very bad since his callup. But I also look at him and say to myself, "He's left-handed, and he's got a major-league body. There's got to be something there."

But he's definitely not ready for prime time. I agree that at this point he needs more time at Louisville.

When Bruce is gone, the Offense will dry up. Phillips isn't a Major Leaguer any more, so they'll pitch around Votto and Duvall. Everyone else's OBP sucks.

Yes, that was inexcusable incompetence. Letting Phillips play with an injured wrist/hand for months to the detriment of the team was no better, and that medical decision was repeated over and over again with different starters.

Incompetent in-season "non-decisions" is Walt's trademark. He's very good in the off-season, but is a piss-poor GM during it...always has been.
