Because someone has to start this:

Let's hope they play a full 9 tonight!

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CpcZKshUIAAw8N5.jpg

Cardinals lineup:
Carpenter 4,
Piscotty 9,
Holliday 7,
Moss 3,
Molina 2,
Peralta 6,
Gyroko 5,
Pham 8,
Leake RHP

Ironman92

They'll do what they do to Leake. They'll score 5+ runs in fewer than 6 innings.

Hopefully that is enough to win.

Yep if "we" bounce back from that crap we watched last night it'd be a miracle....I was hoping for continued improved play and riding the rest of this out around .500 but even I lost a little interest after last night

Wacha placed on the DL...that makes sense
GM went as far as to suggest the days of expecting 200 innings a year from Wacha might be over. Of course, he'll just become a dominant force from the bullpen and the Cardinals are in the midst of sliding Luke Weaver into the rotation and Alex Reyes into the Carlos Martinez 'bullpen to starter' path so they'll still win 100 games for the foreseeable future.

Sigh.

I believe it's a viable method, but personally it's hard to trust the Reds when they initially promised Chapman to the bullpen was just 'temporary' due to Ryan Madson's injury. We saw how that bullpen to starter path worked out.

There's plenty of time left, but the Reds corner outfielders need to get back on track offensively.

They want the Reds to have them inked into starting spots next April. Not sure that will happen, particularly for Schebler, if they don't finish up on an uptick.

Quality start for Finnegan, but an ugly one. You can't walk 6 batters in 6 innings.

Finnegan's peripherals after tonight are 8.1 H/9, 1.6 HR/9, 4.5 BB/9, and 6.6 K/9 at my estimation.

I have certain numbers in my head of where he needs to be to justify remaining a starter, he has some serious work to do.

Good to get Finnegan through 6 innings there, he obviously didn't have great command tonight. Still wound up with a decent outing, hung in and got some big outs.

Reds are going to need a deeper bullpen, even with the improvements they don't have enough dependable guys down there. Big off-season area for improvement.

How many innings are they going to let Finnegan go? Surprised it looks like he'll blow past 150 and maybe near 170.

I wonder if they have any plans for him in the rotation. Personally always have thought a good lefty out of the pen. If the Reds view him as a viable starter for next year or the year after, I'm surprised they are going to go 50-70 more innings than last year

Isn't there a formula they use? Whatever the normal increase is, year over year, for a young pitcher. That's it.

And if it's getting close, I use him out of the pen for a couple of weeks.

I thought we were talking about Finny's eventual role. He's in the rotation for the indefinite future IMO.

If the Reds allow him to start the remainder of the year and let him go 60-70 innings more than he has the last two seasons then it's hard for me to believe the Reds feel he is in their future as a starter. It wouldn't make a ton of sense to be closely watching with a definite plan with Iglesias and Lorenzen but then let Finnegan go way beyond his last season. I get that the other two are young and coming off injuries but Finnegan going way over what he's ever done seems to counter the "no reason to risk injuries in this season where wins don't matter"

I like them allowing him to keep starting as he looks healthy as can be and don't personally believe going 180+ definitely affects anything, but it doesn't jive at all with everything else they are doing.

I'd be amazed if the Reds let Finnegan start all year. They have a goal for him and will then shut him down. Or put him in the pen temporarily.

He's around 130 innings now, I'd guess 160 or so, tops. Another five starts, 30 innings. Maybe less.

First MLB save about to happen for Iggy. I still hope they give him one more crack to be a starter in 2017, but at the very least I think he'll be a good MLB closer.

And that's all she wrote. Reds knock off the Cards 7-4. First MLB save for Iglesias -- one perfect inning.

Well done, Redlegs. Nice bounce-back. :beerme:

Every win over STL is a great win.

Good come back from last night. Shows you the Reds have a solid team with 3 or 4 horrible exceptions.

This team is putting themselves in position for one long shot at 2nd WC.
Sweep all 4 gms in Cincy from Miami and we could have a prayer heading into Sept.
13.5 with 50 to play.
If we get Bailey going our entire rotation would be humming.
Disco tomorrow night then 3 with the depleted Brewers then back home.

Good win. Cardinals are probably panicking with Pittsburgh winning and playing a weak SD team at home wile they have our team. I hope they knock each other out.

Gutsy win after last nights fiasco.

The Reds certainly have no quit in them.

Hamilton shows how great he can be even with a .314 OBA and a .664 OPS.

I'd be amazed if the Reds let Finnegan start all year. They have a goal for him and will then shut him down. Or put him in the pen temporarily.

He's around 130 innings now, I'd guess 160 or so, tops. Another five starts, 30 innings. Maybe less.

At that age Leake was cutoff at 168 after goi g 139 at age 22. I think they even cut him off at 180 the next season. Now there is 5 more years of data and research so they may get him to that 160-170 range.

I think the Verducci Effect got it all going but they have advanced on from it. It's interesting to me. I think they followed it to a t with Leake and let Cueto go way more and were a little bit of both with Homer

Don't know why they bother to interview Price after the game. He says the same things over and over. Wasted bandwidth.

Well, they ask the same questions after every game, so...Of course. Ask the wrong question and the F-bombs flow :). I occasionally watch Clint Hurdle and Joe Maddon's post-game "news conferences," and it's open to the entire press with tough questions. They smile, tell it like it is or what they think it is, and there's no script with softball questions. Day and others tread lightly. It's boring.
