Why is Tucker not batting 6th in that lineup? I know, lineup construction doesn't matter that much, but hey, we gotta have something every day to get on Price about, right?

Just get on base 3x Billy and we'll win!

This probably isn't the best place to ask, but why did they flip Duvall back LF and Scheb to RF?

General assumption is Duvall felt more comfortable in LF.

Immediately Duvall had trouble and he's excellent in LF

Might be something to do offseason---but if Schebler keeps swinging like Heisey on crack then it won't matter.

I don't hate anybody, but reading between the lines the Reds see Schebler as a platoon player. Jocketty said he would platoon back in March.

He's sitting against Garcia and my sense is he won't play much against lefties, even if he comes out of his slump. Which I hope he does. Soon.

Barnhart .636 OPS this year against lefties, probably the reason.

Will Billy bat righty after having so much success batting lefty lately?
Possibly switch back and forth per pitch?

Not saying you're wrong, but I'd say today's benching is much more about being a big 0fer than the fact that a lefty is on the mound.

Reds challenging a play at 2nd with Wong not touching the base. I could swear yesterday the Reds turned a neighborhood double play.

Cardinals fault for not challenging then.

Holliday almost does his thing in LF but makes a catch on a smash by Cozart to end the inning.

Wow, if the games the Reds have played against the Cards are any indication. Holliday went from bad to really terrible in left field.

Tom Servo

Carpenter again. One out triple. Can't believe I almost felt sympathy when he got injured.

Tom Servo

Ugh. Disco got Wong but a long AB by Moss results in a double. Always those pesky lefties.

Disco ahead of Hazelbaker 0-2 and walks him. Seems to be battling himself tonight, Brantley thinks the fastball command is off.

72 pitches through 4 for Disco. Gonna need some quick outs if he wants that quality start.

Jaime Garcia through 5 innings on 51 pitches, the complete game that eluded him last time out seems well within his grasp tonight.

Great play by Tony Renda! Would have been an RBI hit for Holliday and Renda dives and grabs it and fires to first for the out.

Disco right near 100 pitches and that inning was a slog, I'd call it a night.

Tom Servo

Duvall leadoff walk after a scoreless inning from Smith.

Odd how Duvall walks go up even now, when he's not mashing dongers at the rate he was before. Isn't this the time to attack him? I won't complain though.

Reds down in order after the walk.

Tom Servo
08-10-2016, 09:19 PM
Josh Smith with a leadoff walk to pitcher Jaime Garcia in the bottom 7th and I'm starting to think the Reds aren't going to come back and win this one.

Reds FINALLY retire Carpenter in this game with an in-field popup.

Hope they can get out of the inning...I feel Reds are due to score some in the 8th

Just getting ready to say that. I've ripped on them several times and tonight with Peralta at 3rd instead of Gyroko, Carpenter at 1st instead of Moss and then Moss playing well in RF

Not typical for Cards but not the Reds night.

Reds ARE playing better and an hold their own against a lot of teams, including the Cardinals. It should have been a sweep, or at least a series win, but the margin is so thin that you just can't make mistakes. Time to move on and play a team that they can beat hopefully.

Milwaukee this weekend is beatable. Then they have three straight series that will be tough win, Miami,Dodgers and Rangers. All at home but still tough.

Frustrating as it was, we all would do well to let failures like this run off like water off a duck's back. Take the good (in this case, Reed's excellent outing, in particular) and move on. My mantra all year has been, "this season isn't about this season." Makes being a fan this year much easier.
